    Hi Nick,

This throttle lag issue has bugged me since I first got the car. It is exactly what you say it is - throttle lag. It is not turbo related. I presume you drive a manual because I don't think it is a problem with autos. I find it particularly bad in stop start traffic where if you stop and immediately try and take off again the engine takes about a second to respond to throttle input. If it stands for 10-15 seconds idling then it seems to respond almost immediately. The standard response from Toyota is that it must have something to do with the emission control and cannot be adjusted. As such I have had to learn to live with it. I would be very interested to know if it has actually been cured by fitting the chip.

Have had NO lag problems on the 2003 GXL diesel from new, still goes like a train, allbeit a bit slow, but what the hell, have towed a 2500kg van 78000 k's around Australia so far and still like the day I got it off the showroom floor. Sits on 100 to 110 klms hr all day on the flat and big hills are no problems.

Great car, crappy/ costly service from Toyota, should have done all services myself and saved heaps as I have done over the past 3 years.

        Hey Johna and Neil

I don't think the turbo lag is a noticeable issue pre-D4D, my brother in law has a '95 GXL Diesel and it goes fine up to the point when over taking, then it's a pig!

Neil, with respect to the throttle lag, yes it bugged me also from the day I picked up my D4D manual. One of my criteria when selecting the piggy back ECU was to address this issue and the DP Chip certainly made a noticeable difference.

Fuel consumption since installing DP Chip 11.2L/100km and last fill up 10.3L/100Km, in both scenario's I had gone to Perth to Kalgoorlie and back to visit my sister so there was some 1300km round trip highway driving.

I just got a quote back from TRD in Europe for one, just under a 1000 euros & another 50 to deliver it, it would want to be good!

I just ordered the Toyota Motorsport "Diesel Engine Performance Kit "
The price was 994.32 Euros and 52 Euros shipping.
              150Kw and 510Nm
I priced others but for $700 extra I could get a Toyota genuine part, so there was no question which way to go for me.

Toyota will probably install these on the new generation Prado.

              Just my thoughts

                Hi guys...

Just got my DTronic and fitted it. It is the SD-181 model, and I too have no aux module??? The instructions state that it needs to have one but the guy I got it off is 100% sure that no aux module came with it? I havent called Safari yet, and thought I would ask on here first. A quick search makes me the 2nd person to have this problem...

                Now my questions are :

                1) Do I need the aux module?

                2) How do I know my DTronic is working - I HONESTLY can not tell the difference. Its not only me, the Mrs also thinks it's made no difference and keeps telling me I wasted all this money on the car again ops:

                  1) I bought mine new a year ago and it had one. Worth a call to Safari to sort this out.

                  2) You should definitely feel an increase in bottom end torque and throttle response. Don't expect a huge difference in the top end of the rev range.

I have no idea... I never tried with it un plugged.

Have you any spare plugs left over where one would plug in. :?:

If you call them can you ask what the "Aux" module is all about? I was thinking it may be the upgrade for the fly by wire throttle (as it's the only major EFI change from the 1kz in the 90 series) but I'm only guessing.

                          Hi Mick.

Spoke to Safari and they say that the Aux module is built into the units now and that they haven't updated the install instructions...so I'm hoping that its correct. They took the serial number and are going to call me back...

                          Thanks for your help though.

That's interesting...Must be a fairly recent change, just checked mine and I only got it 9 months ago from ARB... mind you no telling how long it was on the shelf for....

Are you still convicnced it's made no difference to performance?.... maybe you need to do a few back to back test runs with and without the unit plugged in....

Deeozzy... for the cost of these things, you would want to get better performance or at least feel as though you are!

If you can't notice a difference, I would want proof that the unit is actually working or a refund from the seller.
