D4D Oil Filter

I'll be taking delivery of a new diesel prado in the next few weeks.

Do I have to use genuine oil filters if I change the oil at 5000km or can i use a reputable brand like Fleetguard and still maintain my warrantee?

contact your dealer or ring toyota aust.
the guide is that it MUST meet toyota filtration requirements/standard.
there are some oil filters out their that don't, but there are others that do.
it can be a clouded area if the worst case were to happen.
ask your dealer or toyota for the response in writing, so future issues can be resolved quickly.
better to know where you stand.
we are not toyota, so therefore our opinion can not be used for legal clarification.
that said, fleetguard i would guess, should be ok.

Hi all

I am unsure as to why anyone would not use the genuine Toyota filter in the D4D as they are SO CHEAP!
Unlike all other diesel engine oil filters, they cost around $15.00. In fact, I purchased a bulk buy of 6 in Mt Isa last year for under $14.00 each.
This filter has been around in Toyota engines for years and that is probably why it is so cheap. I personally think that it may be a little on the small side so I just change it every 5,000km along with the oil.

In respect to the Toyota oil filter - Does anybody know the specific part number for the filter ?

I've just dumped the engine oil and wanted to replace the filter.

When I opened the new replacement (OEM) filter I noticed it was totally different in size (length) and internally different to the original filter on the engine.

Specific p/n's I have are:

Original on engine : 90915-20003

Replacement: 90915-YZZD4

Original manufactured in Japan, replacement in Thailand (not surprised by this)

Would the replacement p/n fit onto the engine properly :?

Our servicing is a hell of a lot cheaper than Mitsubishi, my younger brother bought a 07 diesel pajero and the 30000 service was pretty dear,$45 oil filter and $79 for the fuel filter .Like John previously I get my get my D4D oil filters from our local dealer for about $15 as well........Cheers Paul

Thanks for the info - dealer supplied the wrong filter

Just glad I didn't need to change the filter out in the bush somewhere.

In regards to cost of filters, not badly priced either.

Some parts reasonable others expensive compared to others - probably evens out in the long run

I can confirm that Greg provides a good deal , as unlike the D4D the IKZ-TE filters are very expensive . Some dealers are expoiting their market position and are charging well above Tojo's recommended prices . Check around before you buy then get a quote from Greg .

Will any damage result from installing the D4 filter on a d4d? I was supplied two D4's when I picked up my car.

What is the difference between the two filters? Do they have the same thread and bypass valve?

The 90915 YZZD4 is the genuine filter for the petrol engines & if you were fitting a Ryco instead of genuine you would be supplied a Z418 for both petrol & diesel engines
