  • Steinbauer chip for standard '08 D4D.

Anyone out there using a Steinbauer chip on a standard '08 D4D, does it actually give you the 150Kw with standard equipment ie. exhaust? I got a bit confussed with some of the other posts with the DP or DT chips with the owners saying they had to use a lesser tune on the 1-10 scale because the heat issue to the dump pipe, does that mean you can get approx. 150Kw only when you have an upgraded exhaust system?

Did you also get the switch or remote control to turn the device ON/OFF? Is it worth it?

Any comments? Sorry, I was sure if I should have pin'ed this question onto KJH's thread "Power Chip".

    Cheers

Re: Steinbauer chip for standard '08 D4D.

I've just taken delivery of a Steinbauer module and am planning on fitting it to my 120 over the next week

The procedure is pretty straight forward, with just one fiddly bit. The instructions say to identify the Reference Signal Wire at the accelerator with a multimeter. Can anyone advise if there is a better place to splice into this wire than at the accelerator and which colour it is?

    Cheers

Unless the later 120's changed the harness, it's the white/blue wire you need to connect to.
Check with a multimeter and you should get with the ign on:

with accelerator pedal released: 0.4-1 volt
      accelerator depressed: 3-4.9 volts

Re: Steinbauer chip for standard '08 D4D.

        i have a steinbauer chip on my 08 D4D. i have a snorkel, and a beaudesert exhaust.

i wired the remote switch up myself, so save your $$$ and do it yourself. let me know if you need some dvice as to how to do it.

the wire at the accelorator is wire 6 on the plug, or as a colour reference, its the white wire with the blue trace, furthest away from you before you unplug it from the top of the pedal.

it does mean that you can't get the full potential from the chip.
i have a steinbauer and i had it turned down when we had no exhaust.
it did make a big diff. better pull and higher rev, nicer/smoother power.
after we did the exhaust (12mths later) the diff is still there, but only notice it pulls better higher revs,
and that is with the chip on max.
          exhaust was the bigger difference.
i just used a 2 way on/off switch and wired it in to chip. cheaper and is the same as what they will sell you.

              G'day

Im had the Steinbauer installed with exhaust and snorkel. From all i read before installing, the combo with chip and exhaust is best. I am still not happy with my exhaust (still knocks on stuff) but the extra power and smoothness makes up for it! I have spoken to the guys in Dalby and they have freely offered advice and tips. As i am not the most mechanically minded i had my installed.

              Good luck and enjoy.

              cheers

Re: Steinbauer chip for standard '08 D4D.

I've now fitted the Steinbauer. It made things a lot easier being able to go straight to the right accelerator wire. I still tested it with the volt meter of course and all was good 8)

The Prado's a lot more lively now and pulls a lot better. I understand it's even better with a new exhaust, but I reckon this mod on it's own will do me well for the moment. Early tests with the ScanGauge show better fuel economy when I don't use the extra grunt.
