We test drove a 3.0 auto before purchasing our newby. Can't really comment on compared to the old Prado oiler or hilux for that matter, but we were certainly impressed with the pick up from a standing start. Especially compared to our 93 2.8 Rocky. I have a manual coming, unless someone else can provide info before me, hoping to escape for a few days latish January, and will be sure to record all appropriate figures for those interested.New GXLd4d Owner

I have to say i am in no way an auto man, but will admit to being rather impressed with the behavior of the box on the test drive. seems to be a bit of shock come through if buttoned off too suddenly which i didn't expect from an auto, but all in all, if i was a city inhabitant, i wouldn't think twice on the auto box. I found the side shifting through gates to select a gear a bit off putting but i dare say an acquired taste and once familiar would be second nature.New GXLd4d Owner

D$d fuel economy
Good afternoon,
been watching the forums for a few weeks now and finally decided to get involved.Weve had the d4d 120 series ( manual gearbox) land cruiser for just over 2 years and clocked up 46000 miles, (from that you may have spotted Im from the UK no cricket jokes) we average just over 30 miles to the gallon, which in Australian is about 10.6 km per litre. Even driven hard at over 80 mph (130 kmh) up to the north of Scotland it only dropped to 9 km per litre.
We farm, and it does everything from rounding up cattle to hauling stuck land rovers out of the sticky stuff. great vehicle but not popular over here I reckon you see 50 land rovers for every one land cruiser. hasnt missed a beat yet except for a leaking back door handle which allowed rain into the door cavity, which Toyota promptly fixed. Most people over here are really impressed with the fuel economy especially land rover owners who struggle to get 25 miles to the gallon..Anyway im of to listen to the fightback in the Ashes.... cmon Monty!!!!!

Welcome aboard POM! Impressive fuel figures aren't they?
After years of the local mags fawning over Land Rover Discos and giving out "car of the year" awards to them, one of them has only recently talked of "when" discos break down, rather than "if".
A couple of Disco owners I know wished they'd bought Prados now... (they'd also have about 10-20 grand extra in their pockets and definitely fewer grey hairs!)
Although Toyota doesn't quite have the badge cred that is required by the tosser brigade...
