    Re: bad bad day

Two years of owning a D4D and I still triple check before pulling the trigger. So paranoid and don't want to make the same mistake as you.

Very very lucky there was no damage.

Had the wife of a friend fill their ULP car with diesel, she even managed to drive out of the servo before it died.

        Re: bad bad day

I read this and only had one thought.

It's just like pilots forgetting to lower the undercarriage and belly landing a plane.

The old saying is, "you're either one of those who has done it or one of those yet to do it".

Basically, petrol in the diesel tank or other way around it could be done by ay one of us. Interesting how it happens and how easy it would be to do.

Some bowsers have 2 or 3 petrol nozzles and a diesel one mixed in with them. Some places the diesel handle is yellow and others its green or even blue.

All sorts of human factors creep in to this scenario. Change companies but pick up the same colour hand piece and next thing you've got petrol in the diesel tank.

I like garages that keep the diesel on completely separate bowsers with a hi flow nozzle. There should be a standard colour for diesel nozzles too.

We are only human mate and thank your lucky stars that you hadn't bought the Hitlers Revenge X5.

It seems strange though. When you stop you usually have to wait for some inconsiderate @#$%head to move their petrol powered Honda/Volvo out of the way. When you go to fill up you usually have to stand in a slippery puddle of diesel, its all over the handpiece and on your hands and you smell like a truckie for the day. This usually reminds me that I am putting the right fuel in.

Which is why I wear a pair of gloves when refuelling. I don't want the residue building up on my steering wheel. This tip was mentioned elsewhere in the forum and I've used it from day 1.

Joey, Good news for your hip pocket mate. I think we all live in the constant fear of doing the same thing.

Safest way to fill is to use truck stop servo''s and use the pump that trucks use. Faster fills, bigger hoses and nozzles, and being heavier, you will notice if you pick up a wrong filler hoze.

Even get to have stinky diesel hands just like the truckies

I keep a box of disposable latex gloves in the drivers door compartment, they work real well and I don't have to spend hours behind the wheel smelling diesel fumes. Just take it off and throw it in the bin on the way to the cashier.

Gloves?? Geez after years of filling diesels and getting stinky hands I'd never even thought of this. How stupid do I feel right now. Still, I've sort of come to like the smell of diesel. Can't stand the smell of petrol though. Guess I'm a diesel man through and through. Usually I get a few tissues from the dispenser at my Local BP and dip em in the window washing buckets. Truckies moisture wipes mate!!

                        Re: bad bad day

I have a mate who works in a large company who are currently switching some of their fleet over to new mondeos, as they are so much cheaper than the current falcons. Its a real fleet, as in there's a pool of cars there to be used by whoever. Weeeelllll, some bright spark has decided on a mixture of petrol and diesel models (dunno the ratio) to get an idea of running costs, etc..... so they'll have the same looking car, people hopping in and out of various cars, only some will be diesel some petrol.

You don't have to be a rocket surgeon or brain scientist to figure out what is going to happen ......
