Re: Beaudesert ,TaipanXP or Manta exhaust?

System should be ready tomorrow (ordered Thursday morning) but can't call in until the 9th October to pick it up, but hopefully I will have it installed that same day. I'm with D4D about keeping heat down under the bonnet, but $$ is the determining factor. I'll ring them in the next couple days for a price.

Dan just replied to my email and here is his response.

      Hi Mitch,

To HPC the dump pipe would cost about an extra $150, the benefits would be the cooler temp at which the dump pipe will run keeping excess heat away from the engine. Also it would make it last longer specially if you are a serious off roader and going through water when the engine is hot, this can cause the metal to fatigue and fail. The HPC will limit this happening. You might say is it really worth the money?

Got alot more selection for HPC coaters in SA and over East in general I would think. As far as I am there is only the one in WA? and you would certainly pay a premium for that service, plus you could imagine that there would be a sublet cost attached if getting it done by the manufacturer of the pipe.

Competition and Industrial Coatings (CIC) in Kelmscott 9495 4237 are the only ones I am aware of and I haven't heard the best reports. But in saying that these have been from guys with BB Chevs that take their cars in burnout comps etc. The problem has been a discolouration in the coating and it eventually coming away from the pipes.

A number of my mates here have sent their pipes to Pacemaker in SA and are happy with the results. They have had the coating done inside and out which helps with the longevity of the lusture on the coating if getting the 'chrome' look. Cost has been on par including freight as to what it costs locally in WA also.

At a $150 it would sure make you think twice about getting it coated. Maybe an upgrade to a stainless dump pipe for those concerned about the longevity and looks of the dump pipe would be a better/more cost effective option (for those getting a mild steel system)

$150 = no go for me. I'll just run the mild steel for now and if I have any concerns or problems i can always get another one further down the track.

Re: Beaudesert ,TaipanXP or Manta exhaust?

Finally got my exhaust and installed it over the weekend and was a fairly simple DIY job. Took me 3.5 hours get the old one off (first timer), had to cut the rear section with a hacksaw as the nuts wouldn't budge. Then took me an hour to get the new one on. Only done couple test drives but very happy with it. Doesn't seem to be any loader then stock but I do notice a nice whistle sound when accelerating. Also the boost gauge I installed last week seems to max out (10-11psi) a lot quicker than before.

However, I do have one problem. The rear section of the exhaust sits up against and rubs on my towbar frame/mount. Not sure if anyone else has had this problem or is my towbar mount position slightly different to stock as I have a dual wheel carrier on the back. Any ideas in how to solve this problem? Can I get a strip of rubber or something to put in between the two?

Re: Beaudesert ,TaipanXP or Manta exhaust?

Bugger. Looks you have an aftermarket towbar as min is the factory jobby and mounts to the centre of the rear frame instead of the underside of it like yours does. My suggestion would be to take it to an exhaust shop and see if they can put some heat into the pipe and bend the resonator away so it doesn't hit.

Thats a shame that this has happened. Must be a bit dissapointing? Should be a relatively easy fix though for someone with an oxy.

I have just ordered a Beaudesert system and it comes with a EGT fitting, however, while I know that it is good to know the temps, I wonder which of you have fitted one if any. I have a DP chip and will be putting up the setting after consulting with Berima Diesel.

Well I have put on the Beaudesert exhaust that arrived in one day after it was dispatched. Needed to get a set of deep sockets to do it. All good and thanks for the advice on previous posts. Corbo mentioned a difficulty with the removal of the rear nuts, I found that they were welded on! That could explain why they wouldn't come off. Bolts only.

I am happy with the results and I have turned the DPChip up from 4 to 6 but I would like to know what others with a simipar system have their DPChip turned to.
                          I have a 3.0 TD with a snorkle, a DPChip and the 2.75" Beaudesert with 3" dump.

I've been slack of late and haven't done any more to MUMSRIG. My shed and another car I am building up have taken priority.

Still haven't even purchased an EGT... ops:

Re: Beaudesert ,TaipanXP or Manta exhaust?

Following our 34,260 km trip north and west with my 2003 Turbo Deisel Grande auto towing a 2,500 kg van (Paramount Delta 19.5 ft) and doing extensive off road excursions and general around town touring I was able to accurately calculate my overall fuel consumption averages. The results were:
                              Not towing 13.1 litres/100km
                              Towing averaged 17.9 litres/100km
On arrival back on the Gold Coast I fitted a Beaudesert 2.75" exhaust including dump pipe.
We have since done 5,870 km of the same sort of combination of towing and touring as we did on our trip north. The results were quite pleasing:
                              Not towing 11.5 litres / 100km (12% reduction)
                              Towing 16.1 litres/100km (10% reduction)

The following observations are just that and not backed with any data just what I have experienced.
From the original exhaust system there is absolutely no noticeable difference in noise in the cabin.
There is no increase in noise outside, just a different tone.
Driveability is noticeably easier at lower revs in off road situations as well as pulling away from a stop especially with the van on.
There is an increase in overtaking acceleration without a van (ie accelerating from 80km to 100km) but nothing to write home about.
The biggest improvement is in towing the van on undulating roads. It now changes down way less frequently uphill and can maintain 90 - 100 km/hour in a much more relaxed manner.
Cruising at lower speeds with the van (ie 80 - 90 km/hr) has revealed little or no change.
The big advantage I see with the exhaust is that my economy has improved and where I need it most the driveabilty of my Prado has improved markedly.
I live about 1 hour from the factory at Beaudesert and I had it fitted there.
They took about 3 hours to fit it and I have absolutely no issues with workmanship or their service.
I had the aluminised steel sytem fitted on their advice as their stainless steel sytem is really designed for corrosive environments like the beach and I do not do too much beach driving.
Overall I am very happy with the new exhaust and I believe I will now not have to 'chip' my motor.

I recently had my Prado on the Dyno to check the performace of the Steinbauer Chip and 3" Taipan exhaust.
With just the exhaust (chip turned off) it showed a 10% increase in torque.
