When checking the oil level, should I be checking the level 1 or 2 minutes after shut down or do I need to wait longer?
The reason I ask is that when I changed the oil on the weekend I poured i new oil to the full mark on the dipstick, started the car and went for a short drive to heat it up. When I came back, I checked the level about 2 minutes after shut down and the level was down about 1/4 between low and full marks so I topped it up to full. When I checked it this morning, the level appeared over full.
Should the level be taken as being correct when checked a few minutes after shut down or when all of the oil had drained down to the sump ie after an hour?
I notice that when my car comes back from toyota after a service the level is also over full.
