Unfortuatly my noise is back and the belt is damm tight it only seems to do it after dustry roads or dry spells a little rain or cleaning under the bonnet it goes away for a while

I'm assuming you changed the belts over before (when you said you would keep the old ones as spares?)
You could try belt grip, but that isn't a fix, more a bandaid. Mine was the bearing on the compressor that was shashed, have you looked at it to make sure that it is the belt slipping not the pulley bearing? As in my case they sounded basically exactly the same...

        Re: Air Conditioning Schreech

Have read this topic with interest as i have been experiencing a problem with my ac cutting out particarlly at warmer temps and if i turn off the ac switch when it stops cooling then after a short while i will turn it back on and it will work again for a while ,belt replaced same problem ,so the gas was removed ,weighed and replace to the correct level adding approx 100grams of gas, problem still exists. The clutch appears to cut in ok when compressor is on but sometimes a bit of noise exists when at idle. The pipes at compressor are cold on the outlet side but too hot to touch on inlet side [when clutch engaged].It has been suggested that it maybe the KX valve [i think that was what it was called],located up under the dash maybe not working correctly closing off and maybe we should replaced this valve but i am know reading this forum for possible hints before proceeding.
        Hello any ideas,it is a 04 1kz,thanks

Well it does not seam that simple with mine. I have replaced the belt and checked tension and I still get that annoying noise. It only does it when the weather is warm and the car or or air on is first turned on. Any ideas

hrmm, the gas coming out of the AC should be HOT on the discharge and cold on the suction. (The suction side will be cool as this is how the compressor is cooled). So if its opposite like you say it could indicate that there is a bigger problem. If the TX valve (not KX ;-)) is not working you would have no cooling effect whatsoever. An auto leccy with gauges on should be able to tell you this as the gauges would indicate this. One thing you can try is with the AC running wash you condensor down with water and if you AC goes cold, you may have an airflow fault over the condensor as the head pressure is to high getting into the TX valve.

Bit hard to tell unless you can tell me what the pressures are on the gauges, i would imagine being 100g down on gas would impact the cooling effect but not that much. We have landcruisers running around with 300g of gas instead of 600g and still cool fine and they are working in a hot underground mine.

            Cheers Joel

Well looks like my air con is going too. Like some of the others it starts then stops then starts then stops and it all seems at random. I had a check of the belt and it seems tight and when the car is running it doesn't appear to be slipping and i don't think it is gas as when it does run it pumps out nice cold air. When i was watching the compressor though i did notice that when it was on the centre of the compressor would spin for a while then stop as if i had turned the air con off, which i had not. So it appears either compressor or electrical as in the switch to turn it on and off. In the cab the LED stays on and it makes no difference if i flick the switch on and off a lot so i am leaning more towards the compressor. Any thoughts?

Sounds like it is working perfectly to me. The compressor cutting In and out like that means the evaporator in the cab is getting to temp, if the clutch stayed on all the time you would find the Evap would ice up and the ac would not be cold at all. If the ac is cold all the time then you got nothing to worry about. Compressors do die. But I have had I e in my lancer since new and has never been replaced and it's still as cold as the day I picked it up 11 years ago.

                Cheers joel

So if the clutch is working and so is the compressor then that leaves me up in the air as to why it doesn't keep pumping cold air all the time when i don't touch a thing. I get sudden bursts of warm moist air just like having the A/C off when it isn't then it will randomly start to cool again. If i had the climate control unit i could understand but as it is the old fashioned manual cold to hot temp selector then i am still stumped as to what could cause this.

Also the AC relay can become a bit dicky with an intermittent fault cause the AC to cut on and off

aah righto, well to be honest, only way you will know for sure what the problem is, would be to stick a set of gauges on it and see what it is doing. we could guess and make suggestions over and over. Then we can see for sure if its low on gas or something else in the system is faulty.

                      Cheers Joel

Thanks anyway. Off to the auto sparky to see how much it costs for the finance committee's comfort

Had a similar problem and finally traced it to the relay playing up intermittently. TOyota one very costly ( solid state relay) so used a 12 volt 15 amp standard relay. Cost about $10 so bought a couple of spares as well. That was 2 years ago and relay still ok.

Also, there was a thread a couple of years ago re the thermistor sensor in the return air plenum, ( remove glovebox to access ) which was placed too close to the evaporator which caused short cycling of the compressor.
