Um whats your point. Damo is doing the right thing and commenting on an existing thread rather than starting a new one...

Oh yea... BTW... Oil filters still exist... Even the motors from back in 2010...

Nothing other than it already answered the question back in 2010 IMHO and the guy that asked the question is likely happy with his answer by now? (three years on)

BTW, I use an adjustable spanner.

can always just use the old screwdriver through the filter trick thats what I did last service as my wrench was too small

I use either a strap wrench or a multi-grip style filter wrench. They both work okay.

I don't use a filter wrench at all, and you really shouldn't have to. The filter is in a good place on the 1kz and you can get both hands in easy. I do have a little rubber pad thing (you know, for opening Jars) that I stole from the Mrs (she wasn't happy, as apparently it's Tupperware brand???). This helps to get a bit of grip when you have oil on your fingers. The Z334 is a good filter and I use them all the time. As for it being a Zombie thread, who cares... Sometimes it's good to re-visit old topics, even if only to correct the folks who are still using filter wrenches to put oil filters in!

I grabbed a turkey baster and use it to get the oil out of the base of the oil filter area, ( the hose is always blocked)works a treat......don't tell the mrs though! She hasn't missed it yet!
                Cheers

I was wondering the same thing Phil, might order one of those flash filter spanner things anyway coz they look cool and I actually did my first service on the new engine and found it a little hard to access.
Yep.....I have a Prado just like you

I had to remove a filter off an old Ford V8 a couple of weeks ago. I didn't need a wrench either. No siree, I used a great big hammer and a chisel.

just put a screwdriver through the filter and twist it, easy as! no need for a wrench if you're careful and not too rough. this is how I've done mine
