  • engine noise when first revs

My car has 148000ks on the clock, when you first accelerate it sounds like either tappet noise or an exhaust leak. has anyone heard of this in a V6 before. Someone told me it might be the timing belt, but toyota said they have a timing chain. My car is a 2003 V6 GRJ120R Auto with 148000ks.

If it sounds like an exhaust leak, its the header design - not an issue.
if its a tappet noise, read this:

    More to come!

Could be detonation, does it do it under load, if so might
      be bad fuel.

It only seems to do it under load and first driving off. I am using standard unleaded, not E10. Do you recommend premium unleaded. Thanks Majorp

How did you find the extractors and exhaust. Did they improve your power and fuel economy, and what size did you get fitted. Thanks for your help Majorp

Yes they do, provided you can control your right foot.

Try filling up with unleaded from a different source and see if that makes a difference, if you think the engine is pinging,
sounds like a crackling noise then you could also try cleaning the mass airflow sensor.

It's normal noise for the V6. It sounds a bit like a VW/Herbie, just not that loud. But just make sure that it isn't the tappets.

A little out there i know as i cant hear the noise, although my Prado with 145K on clock was making noise when i first accelerated. I had a look and found both Exhaust Heat Protectors under the car with bolts missing and clamps rusted through. They both sat there loose on the exhaust. hope this helps Daz
