Steve, I have happy to listen to any actual/ factual data about issue, just haven't experienced it personally. I haven't ran any fuel comparisons as they r never apples for apples, the one time I did have to put 95 in it seemed worse, alternatively I filled up recently at a Caltex/ woolworths and it seem to last a lot longer, however not factual just seat of my pants stuff.

Anyhow I will paying for my own fuel again soon so I will be filling wherever it is cheapest, today the BP's r 150 pl and the some I the Caltex etc on the north r as low as 1.37pl ?? Bit hard to follow prices up here.

My 120 had extractors, snorkel, bigger exhaust, 70% larger duration fuel injectors, nomad valvebody in the auto box...Not stock at all.

Under harsh acceleration, the ethanol blend fuel resulted in heavy pinging and the engine ran hotter. Using RON98 or RON95, these problems never occurred. This set up was for 138 odd thousand kilometers. The truck returned fuel burn of around 17/20 litres per hundred when driven hard. And 16/17 litres per hundred, driving miss daisy.

I am with Steve, in some Prado's; ethanol fuel is not the go.

2 fills ago b4 i put the new plugs and k&n in ,, i filled up with v power and i felt the difference straight away compared to the 98 from 7 eleven... i should have realised then the v power was higher in RON... the V6 was very responsive on that fill.. once this tanks gone.. i'll use the shell for a while and see how my numbers go.. enjoyed the input on this subject...

would like to have a look at the damage steve.. I'm lead to believe , that japan has been running ethanol since the 90's and gennerally the toyota's have been made with the use of this product and its affects on rubbers and components in mind...

and also was aware that holden " by now " , would of in-coporated the change of components to be ethanol friendly seeing its goin to be ethanol blended world in the near future.., but was well behind the eight ball there

          look forward to those foto's

Inside my filler cap it says E10 compatible, that is enough for me.

In regards to how much fuel to put in, I have found that I get much better economy when only filling up with $100 worth, about 1 tank.
The extra weight of the fuel with both tanks full makes a difference.

I have used E10 on my current 120 Prado, which is labelled suitable for this fuel, with no problems.
My previous 120 cracked the plastic inlet pipe, which I blame on the E10.

If I go on a long trip with few fuel stops, I prefer to get the premium fuel, as it gives better economy.

I have also worked as a contractor at the ethanol plant in Nowra. All the employees there use the E10 and swear by it.

I guess you use what you are comfortable with. An article on Current Affair showed that E85 is now available for the new Commodores. This is what we may be using in the future..

FWIW, I wouldn't use E10, but not on the basis of what a mate told me or because of something in a magazine...

I fully believe that your mate has seen this, but I also believe that it's localised and not indicative of the entire national market (although there are likely going to be similar cases around the country). When mixed correctly, Ethanol fuel should never cause issues. Not heat or corrosion. Blame human negligence somewhere along the fuel supply chain. Don't blame the product.

I'm sure it was in the telegraph paper and I did read it in a 4wd magazine as well..........Each to their own but I will never use it unless there is no other choice then I would use 95 or 98 before I use E10............Cheers Steve
Ethanol wasn't intended for towing and touring. No surprises there...

No offence taken AK7, everyone is entitalled to their opinions, thats what makes these forums informative and interesting. And possibly 100% correct in your answer. My comments are purely based on what I have read and heard, but never seen for myself and even then I wouldnt know wether some one was feeding me bullshit or not on how injectors were stuffed lol........The only thing Ive based my info on is the usage in my wifes car using E10 over normal unleaded and usage increased. Either way I will stick to the normal unleaded while ever possible. Liftmans comment about his plastic inlet pipe was a bit concerning even though not 100% sure on what caused it, things like this turn me off using it and for the sake of 2 to 4c per litre saving not worth it for me......Cheers Steve

Are you guys sure that the vehicles are indeed capable of running E10? Are you sure it's actually E10 you're putting in there and not E85? The corrosion issues would be much easier to understand if it was E85.

Have a look at the FCAI Ethanol Fuel compatibility chart. Read the text at the start and the end.

Also have a read of this article:

E10 compatibility for engines rated at 95 and 98 RON should be regarded in the same light as a space-saver spare tyre.

unlike alot of you guys,, taking into account you may think i waste my money.. the research i just did confirms that the knock sensor is running the show... so the lower the ron means " as i understand it " retards the engine " as told to do by this sensor... i found it was designed to run 87 ron... that means if i run 98 does that mean i am running a advanced timing thro the the knock sensor...?

hense i do notice better feel /acceleration and and milage if i use the 98,, but till the other day i found i was using a blended 98. ( E10 ).. so my data is all up the creek .. i still will use 98 and try to maintain a collection of data regarding the milage on this ron use in the 1GR-FE

{ non e 10}. but i will have to start again from the next fill using the shell v power..

                      cheers butane

The 1GR-FE is the 4.0 L (3956 cc) version, designed for longitudinal mounting in RWD and 4WD pickup applications ... Output is 236 hp at 5200 rpm with 266 lb·ft of torque at 4000 rpm on 87 octane, and 239 hp at 5200 rpm with 278 lb·ft at 3700 rpm on 91 octane. Are you sure you're not quoting from a US article? Their octane rating is entirely different to ours... Their version of our "91" is called 87, I believe...and their version of "95" is called 91.

Someone from the US please correct me if I'm wrong?
