  • Which Extractors for The V6 Petrol - GJR - FE

    Hi All,

Looking for opinions on which extractors are the best.

I have been looking closely at the Genies, Pacemaker and Redback and recieved the following quotes:

Genies or Redbacks Fitted best quote $570.00
    Pacemaker Fitted best quote $770.00

If some one know a better price please let us all know and will consider.

I have recieved other quotes for $850.00+ for all of the above brands, however really looking for feedback on what people have and their thoughts as to what is best/works and will by on relevant feedback.

Someone told me the Genies and the Redbacks are from the same factory is this true?

Should I do some other exhaust work while I am at it or should I leave the standard pipes in?

    Look forward to your responses.

    Cheers

Go the Pacemakers , they are welded inside and out and there is no change in diameter on the bends i.e mandrel bent, the flanges are all cleaned up internally so welding dags don't obstruct flow
The cheaper headers are not mandrel bent and loose some of the diameter on the bends
    otherwise Genies are second choice

I have pacemakers and they are great. They were on the car when we bought it though so no real comparison.

I had redback originally but only changed to pacemaker for the ceramic coating to reduce temps now I have the blower fitted. I think both are the same really, the redbacks were mandrel bent, I bought mine on ebay for $300 + $200 fitted. If you the $$ I'd go a full SS system so it won't rust. If you're going to stay naturally aspirated, then long tube headers are the best - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/like/2009...=true&lpid=107 Doug Thorley also do some nice ones but you will need a rear sensor simulator (plug into ECU) to stop the engine light coming on as you remove the front cats.

Can anyone give a recommendation for an installer with a reasonable price in perth - preferably northern suburbs? Is there a petrol power module for the 120 V6 that will compliment an exhaust upgrade?

I have been quoted $925 for the supply and install of pacemakers.
the exhaust guy called them shorties and said that was all that was suitable for the prado due to the cats. There were no other inclusions for this price. the original cats and everything south of them are untouched. Does this sound right?

                  Hi,

for info, i got the price from Joondalup Exhaust.

I still have not committed. I am sick of the auto box dropping in and out of the torque converter lockup and also between 4th and 5th when travelling at highway speeds, no doubt due to the 265/70 tyres that i have fitted, and the extra drag from the roof racks, lift and other mods.

When driving without the cruise on, the issue is much less. My theory is that the cruise is constantly changing the accelerator input which is unsettling the auto. With a bit more torque I thought that the auto might settle down.

I still haven't been convinced that the extractor alone will make enough of a difference.

I would also like to improve fuel economy (who wouldn't?), but at this price it would be like stepping over notes to pick up coins

The cruise control is known to be "less than perfect" in the 120's. I have pacemakers and a dual 2 1/4" exhaust and it still does it.

Thanks for letting me know that. It would have killed me if i had spent the money on extractors and it still hunted through the gear box. I might put the money in the caravan fund instead.

I had similar problems with the transmission dropping in and out of over drive, especially when towing the boat. I had pacemaker extractors supplied and fitted locally in Newcastle for around $650. However when I picked up the car the exhaust guy was not very happy, he said it was a real pain of a job and he didn't charge enough, lucky for me I guess. The rest of the exhaust was left standard, the improvement in economy and performance was small. I eventually replaced the rest of the exhaust with a 2.5" mandrel system, this gave a much more noticeable performance increase.

There was a improvement in the transmission, but it still drops out of overdrive too easily. I ended up fitting a torque converter lock up switch to enable manual control of it.

I have a 2.5 inch straight through exhaust system (back from the extractors) on my auto 150 petrol, and the cruise control can be a P.I.T.A. on hilly areas. The worst cruise control I have driven with (though nothing else wrong with the Prado) Other work vehicles I use to drive (Holden, Ford, Mitsubishi) never were as savage with the auto kick down.

On some hilly sections, it has kicked down from 5th to 2nd and it will roar over the crest of a hill more than 20 k/h above the speed limit unless I turn the cruise off. I suppose the hard kick down is to do with the improved exhaust gas release with the less restrictive pipe and straight through muffler.

Yowie, with the straight through muffler, what is the noise like especially in relation to droning. Similar to standard or dronier? Neil

A deeper noise, a bit louder than standard, but no drone because I have a second small muffler (or resonator) fitted just before the end (about a foot back). Put the foot down hard and there is quite a bit more noise. Dave.
