1GRFE seriously are fine solid engines.
They are reliable as. They produce 75 percent of their torque as low as 1200rpm.
relatively efficient for a large petrol 4wd engine.
Everybody services the engine but forget to change the transmission fluid. I change trans fluid every 100 00kms with the strainer/filter.
very common to see high km 1grFE motors running puuurfectly fine. 400 000kms and up. Just warming up mate!

I would buy with confidence mate. Just do your vehicle checkup. Check the dipstick. Oil Quality. Service history.
Listen for noises (Ignore the Tick) that's the stupid header/extractor design that's almost at a right angle.
To answer your question. Around 4k rebuild give or take some. Second hand wrecker motors are similar price.
the 5 speed auto transmission is fantastic with a gated shift. Quite smooth in the real world.
Hell even the 4 speed pre 2005 model gets a mention as it has excellent towing ratio.
When you get one. Just change all the fluids.
Oh. LSD on these prados or any Toyota are useless lol.
Open Wheel LSD all day long.
