Hi All,
My Prado is leaving drops on the ground where I park it.. I'm guessing about 5 drops per hour.
see attached pic. I think I see the issue.. there is a definite V groove in the washer/gasket.. and you can see that they have used gasket good or similar to seal it up..
questions...
- is this V groove normally there.? I don't think it would be. Looks like they have hit it with a screw driver or something trying to get it off, haven't been able to and as such have bogged it up with Gasket Goo etc... anyone agree with my thoughts on that..?
- is it normal to use silicone sealer/gasket goo etc.. I've changed many oils on motorbikes and from memory I never used sealers.. just nipped it up and all good.. ?
- I just looked at it again before posting.. I think they did it up with a rattle gun, too tight and have cracked the washer/gasket.. that's how it looks to my forensic brain now.. any takers on that conclusion..? it was BLOODY hard to do.. I would think these don't need to be done up with a rattle gun..?
and lastly.. I'm not too stupid but - this is the engine sump right?, not centre diff etc etc.. I can't be buggered jumping under the car again, not much room there!
appreciate any other ideas/thoughts on the picture and issue... it's boxing day now but on Monday I'll be back to my new service centre asking them to fix it! - this issue has only occurred since I went to them.
Thanks all!
