    Carrying a small chainsaw under the bonnet in a D4D

    I have been looking at the quite large empty space in the drivers side front under the bonnet. This would be normally be used for the second battery I expect, but my 2nd battery has been installed on the passenger side.

    The air compressor will be mounted in another space and I don't have anything else that needs to go under the bonnet.

    Any issues in carrying a small chainsaw under the bonnet of a diesel?
    I would need to remove the bar and drain the fuel, but I for when you really need a chainsaw, albeit a small one, you have it on hand.

    The smallest Stihl will just fit and some other brands are even smaller. They tend to have 12-14" bars so they are still useable.

    Has anyone done this before and any issues?

    sounds like possibly the greatest idea ever. I'm very interested in this, while i dont think anyone will have done it, I do look forward to seeing pics!

      I gotta say that is really thinking outside the square Chris, can't say as i've heard of it, but can't think of any reason why not, so long as it fits and is secure shouldn't be an issue. I have my compressor mounted there so I won't be doing it, but interested to see how you go.

        My Ozito chainsaw lives a steel box that I only carry when I go bush as the cabin fills with the fumes of 2-stroke and chain oil if I leave in the back all the time.

        Storing it in engine bay may work, but I'd still have carry the fuel and chain oil in the cabin.

        Hmmm, maybe some sort of detachable storage box that mounts under the car for the Fuel/oil.

          The fuel & oil can sit in the basket on top or in the back. I reckon if I drain the fuel tank after use it should be safe to store under the bonnet.
          With some 1cm thick high density rubber/foam stuff and an elastic strap to hold it all in place it should all work ok.

                      I see now, its all clear before me.

                          Is it just a coincidence that Stihl adverts keep cropping up in this thread? Or is big brother really watching us.

                          As for the PPE D4D, I wouldn't have thought that a pair of thongs and a stubby holder would take up that much space.
