  • Finally joined the club

Thanks to some great info found here, I finally joined the Prado club Monday. Late 07 (first reg April 08) V6 GXL. Shade over 80000kms on it. Would really have liked a slightly later with a few less k's, (and in RED) but short of a trip across the pond to the Big Island, can't be too picky here in Tas.

Came pretty bog standard other than some window tinting so since Monday I have added bonnet and headlight protectors, and some floor mats, and removed all the oily gunk that detailers put on cars. Have some Wetseat Prado customs on order, few weeks away for them. Currently wearing Maxxis Bravos which, on the surface seem ok, only pretty fresh I would guess so can't really justify changing them in the next little while, will add some Bridgestone 694s if I can get a good deal at any stage (or these give me reason to want to), had 694s on the Rav4 and couldn't fault them.

Will add an ARB deluxe bar, probably in the standard grey with winch and spots when finances allow. That will probably mean a lift required. Don't intend to too much serious offroad stuff but I do venture to a few off the beaten track places around the state fishing so the extra clearance could be handy. If I get really adventurous I will probably add a second battery to run a fridge and a few other bits. Pretty keen to add a DigiOptions unit with reverse cam too.

So more than anything, thanks for all the contributors so far that has helped make the selection, expect a few more questions and some updates as I explore more!

If there are any other Tassie members interested in a catch up, I'd be keen!

    Cheers
    Rod

Said the same thing myself a few months ago...but my ever expanding mod/wishlist is also expanding options for venturing ....so now of course I have to expand my driving abilities!

            Thanks guys....

The mod list is growing, funny enough in direct proportion to the amount of time I spend here.

Will also ask if anyone has any tips for removing the last vestiges of a previous smoker in the car, not super noticeable, but if you know it is there you can smell it ... washing out the ashtray has made a good start, have hit as many of the "Soft" surfaces as I could with an upholstery shampoo. Would like to avoid an freshener if at all possible, they all smell nearly as bad as the smoke.

            Cheers

Maybe try some of those air deoderizers, like Fe-breeze etc. - I only seen them on telly, never tried them myself as I don't smoke... Can't hurt though, and I imagine it would be cheap.

Congrats on the purchace, nice clean looking Prado.
If you're after some Bridgestone 694's, they were recently on special at Bridgestone dealers in SA, $305 for 265/65/17 & $329 for 275/65/17 were the best prices I was quoted, just make sure you shop arround as all of the different Bridgestone dealers quoted different prices. I did also hear that another PP member got his from K-Mart tyre & auto so they could be worth a go as well.

                        Thanks guys...

Pulled the air filter behind the glove box out yesterday and cleaned it - wasn't too bad apart from a heap of wattle and some WHOLE gum leaves - was a bit surprised to find them there. Have had the doors open with fresh air through the last few days and it seems to have helped a fair bit with the smokey smell.

I have done some ringing around and put the hard words on a couple of Bridgestone dealers, can get 4 fitted and balanced 275/65/17's (LT) with Nitrogen (not sure if that makes any difference, had it in my last set on the Rav4 and really didn't notice) for $1100. Will see how the Bravos go, not really had the chance to test them much really yet.

                        Cheers

$1100 is a good price, but don't get nitrogen. If you ever take it off road you will be letting air out of the tyres and, short of taking the car to a tyre dealer again, you will have to pump them up with ordinary air.
