  • Clear Instrument Cover Removal

Does anyone know how to get the clear cover off the instruments?
Mine seems to have dust and smears on the inside and I want to get it off to clean it up.

I think this happened when the dash was replaced but if its not a big deal to remove Id rather do it myself and give it a polish.

    Cheers

Yes... thanks to SWMBO for dry wiping the dust and offroad grime vigorously so I can barely read the instruments!

Will be watching for the answer to this thread.. and then how much a new clear cover costs.

Plastic polish should be good for the outside surface if the scratches arent deep.
Inside is a bit more difficult

I spoke to the dealer that did the dash replacement and they swear that the clear cover does not come off during the dash replacement as its part of the cluster..
So obviously it couldnt be them !!!

It can be removed from the instrument cluster but they would not tell me whats required other than they can do it for $140!!!..........Dipsticks !!!!

Is that to point at the potential scratcher

Can buy plastic polish at auto stores - I had some for the motorbike, for the fairings etc, got light scratches out.

Yep, Mothers makes a really good plastic polish.
                    Plexus is really good too.

i just used polish on my daughters barina b4 we sold it as it was so badly scratched you couldnt see thru it. It all cleaned up easily and quickly and looked as good as new. i couldnt believe how easily + quick it was to do. maybe try a small section first

I've got a can of Plexus at home and tried it on my instrument cluster plastic and to be honest I didn't notice any difference whatsover. The light scratches still exist.
But like mentioned above, I now used compressed air to blow over the plastic before giving it a wipe down.
Would love to hear others thoughts on what works.

                          I use this stuff.

You spray it on and it foams up lifting the dust and grime with the foam. Then wipe off with a microfibre cloth. It supposedly removes minor scratches etc. Having seen some friend's instruments scratched and knowing how dusty and sandy ours gets I can only say it works well and I haven't had any problems to date.

This stuff is good too although I havent done anything to the instrument cover yet,
Ive used this stuff for years on bikes and has always done a decent job.
Finish off with Plexus (actually Im using VuPlex too now) and its like new
