    Nige,

    I'm also a Subaru driver! :-)

The 90 litre light seems to come on about the 700km mark in our V6. I'm averaging about 13.5l/100km everyday driving. We live in the Mountains at 2500' and work down in the valley - I think my mileage would be better if we lived on the flats.

The reason the gauge seemed to take forever to move from "Full" is that the range of movement for the first 90 litres is from "Full" to "Half", therefore the resolution suffers.

    Hope this helps,

    Drew.

[quote="DARREN"]found another picture of possibly the update model 2006 prado......

Im gonna make a bet and say that this is the new update 2006 model for australia... (i could be wrong though... )

      looks good i think.........8)

Darren Sorry to spoil your fun but the picture shows the Prado normal bumper with a optional nudge bar on it. I ordered a nudge bar when i put in an order for my Prado. It set me back Fiji Dollars $2800.00 (approx AUD $2200.00). After i got delivery of my Prado i found out that i could have bought the same thing from a aftermarket spare part dealer for FJ$800.00!!!!!!!. I will post some pictures of my Prado shortly.

The 1 KD (D4-D Common Rail) engine has been available in Japan for a while now. It is also available inPapua New Guinea. I don't know why it is not available in Australia or Fiji. I did try to get my local dealer to get me 1KD engine but they said they could not!

        Hi Folks,

During my shopping around in the past few weeks for a new Prado. Some of the dealers have told me a little bit of information about the new diesel model.

The engine will be the same as the one from the Hilux but apparently will be tuned/modified to give a higher Kw output.. +5Kw I think I was told...

The only other changes that I could squeeze out was that the GXL will come with privacy glass on the back windows and the GXL will also have roof rails as standard.

Every dealer had a different story on availability ranging from Mid September to Early January ....

Obviously, this information could be completely wrong given that they were trying to flog me a current model diesel...

Anyone else heard anything that can confirm or deny these changes ?

        Dale.

          Mine is similarbto the pictures

          Hi all

I love the forum realy fantastic, Am an Australian working in Dubai
I got my brand new Prado in March V6 grande
My prado looks like the pictures your are inquiring about , the hornes at the front bumper with engraved PRADO is the onlt change but it doesn't come with Traction control nor DAC or VSC instead we get Ahighly Reverd up version of v6 4.0 L that generates 262 HP and 41.5 N.M of Tourque "good for the sand rides I must say"

The central consule comes with a compass field monitor type screen instead of the GPS :?

Fuel consuption is between 17.2~16.3 L/100KM (Consier that the average speed here is 140 KM/HR on highways and about 80 KM/HR on inner city roads but not suburps. but fuel is cheap (about 60C/L for the premium 98 unleaded grade)

When on highway engage the cruise control and the consumption decreases - that is if you drive on constant speed for 25 minutes say-

Guys any idea how much the original toyota GPS / NAV costs in Australia?

            Prado Grande

            Dale,
I have also been shopping around Bris Vegas for pricing it is suprising how many dealers only want to give you full retail price for a Grande Diesel. I wish to place order for the new version with the common Rail in but the only Dealer to give a fair price has been Steve @ Sci Fleet at Kedron.
I accept that it may have a 2 to 3% increase when it comes in but these other sales guys will only offer a price at Retail.
Please advise any good dealers you have found.

Looking forward to be coming a Prado Owner
            Cheers
            Tony

              Hi Tony,

I was told that the pricing for the new diesel would be current RRP + 5% for the new engine/features and this takes into account their annual price rises etc.... (not sure of the BS factor in what I've been told)....

I made a few assumptions based on that, and for the GXL, the drive away price was somewhere around 60K...

I ended up going for the current diesel which ended up being 48K drive away... hopefully pick it up on friday...

I expect that the 12ish grand I saved on the purchase price will cover the lower resale value and higher fuel consumption over the 3 years of my lease...

Apart from that, I have driven a prado with the current engine, and It'll do everything I need it to do over then next few years... If I thought it wasn't up to the task, then I would have waited... or chosen a different car...

              Cheers,

              Dale.

                Prado 2006

                Dale,
I hope you enjoy your new Prado, I am going to wait for the new engine as I do not need to change over within any special time frame. We intend to look forward to keeping it for atleast 5 years as we average around 40K a year the fuel economy along with power will be good.
Can you advise the dealer you went through.
But either way enjoy your new vehicle.
                Cheers

                  Gidday Tony,

When I first started looking for a Prado in mid 2004 they were hinting at the new engine coming out that year. 2 years later I'm a bit skeptical of when (if ever) it will come out, bearing in mind it's been the same spin from dealers for 2 years now

With a growing family, I'm glad we decided on getting one in May 05, otherwise we'd still be waiting....

                    Hi all,

I didn't really worry about waiting any longer for a new diesel engine,
as I haven't heard any bad reports about the current one. Toyota have a runout sale at the moment and a GXL is $49,990 before on road costs for
existing stock only, so after a bit of bullshit with the dealer, I managed an
auto diesel GXL on road for $54,000 with a free towpack, extended 5 yr
warranty, tinted windows and 'mats'. I pick it up in a day or 2..... can't wait.

Dale, that price is a bargain....was the extra savings due to a lease or package of some sort ??? I feel as if I have been ripped off a little.....

                    Mark.
'06 120 GXL TD ARB bar, IPF Spotties, UHF, D694's... More to come

You should be able to find a GXL new drive away for this type of figure or within about a grand of it.

A mate just got one with Sovereign Bar, Mats, Rear mat, Towbar, tyre cover (full) for $51500 Drive away.

Some people can get better deals because they may be eligible for fleet discounts etc (My mate wasnt).

I was and saved about 15-16k off retail on a Garande earlier this year.

Bottom line is, you were obviously happy to pay what you did and were prepared to part with that money for the car, dont let it irk you now !

The vehicle is worth it, and you will enjoy driving it.

I went Petrol on mine as I feel in the long run it is cheaper, and the driveability is chalk & cheese.
I did drive the new D4D engine in the Hilux and must admit its a lot more grunty than the current diesel. But still too rattley for me.

In Europe maybe 95% of the Prados are DiD diesel common rail engine.
This engine (160 HP) showed a "black hole" in the power delivery between 1.500 to 2.300 RPM. The power hole were specially important with the 5 speed manual gear (in Europe automatic gearbox is only 20% of the total Prado's sells).

The problem was so big that TOYOTA finally fixed it in 2006 with a new fited engine with 6 speed (instead of 5) a different power curve on the CDI and delivering 166 HP.

I immediatly sold my 2005 5 speed and buy an 2006 6 speed. The problem has been solved but, please if you are used to a big petrol engine be very carefull with the D-4D. The automatic version has no problem, you simply kick on the trothle and the car push up, the geabox making the job for you. But manual versions will show you clearly the difference in torque between petrol and diesel engines. Petrol is a very best engine between 1500 and 2500 RPM.

I even notice some larger car dealerships have some 120's on Ebay!
I was happy to see a 2003 Grande going for well over double (Almost double and a half!) what a similar Pajero Exceed with less Kms is going for !

There is a few nice vehicles (120's) on there for the 40 k range (Grande's) and hi 30's for GXL/VX models all about 25000 kms.

I have bought the brand new Grande, but have decided I will probably buy a 1-2 year old VX as a second car in about a year.
Can modify that one and leave the Grande as the wife's car.

a little red botton under the steering wheel

I just got a prado 2006 GX automatic Petrol engine 2.7L two week ago, I have noticed that there is a little red botton below the steering wheel just next to the hood opener and gas opener.

What is that botton used for, I just press it and nothing happened ?
