New AT's 275/65r/17 rubbing on Bullbar any advice how to fix my problem.

I put the new set of AT's on and loaded the family in and went for a spin and turned the wheel to the right and heard a rubbing sound, pulled over and the left hand side of the Bullbar had a skid mark on it. Can any one give me some advice on how to fix my problem.

Tyres : AT 275/65r/17

5'' grinder 1mm cutting disc.........finish off with a 60grit flap wheel..........15 mins a side............job done.

Hi The Gibeno,

I have a solution, swap tyres to 265/70/R17's.
According to several tyre companies, these will fit no problerms.

Otherwise, hard work with Grinder as metioned.

Depending on how bad the scuff mark is on the edge of your bull bar you could also either make some shim plates to fit the very front of the bumper (Where the bumper bolts directly to the front chassis rail brackets) to move the whole bumper forward away from the Tyre or try to re-position the bar by loosening all of the bolts to see if you can move and re-position the bar away from the tires!

Note: "Sometimes" when a wheel alignment is carried out they don't always align the steering rack central (Not the steering wheel) and this can cause one wheel to travel further than the other when the steering is turned from lock to lock. EG: one wheel rubs sway-bar or inner guard on full lock but the other wheel doesn't!...

You can check to see if the steering rack is centralised by simply counting how many threads are showing on both tie-rod ends. (Where the ball joint from the wheel hub connects to steering rack with a lock nut) They should both be even give or take 1 or 2 threads. (Preferably even).

If the car does not already have a lift kit a lift kit can reduce Tyre rubbing when carrying extra load as the wheel camber tends to lean more negative when extra weight is added. (Does not apply to a live axle). Prado is independent front suspension and live rear axle.
