6 Stacker CD player missing

Bought a 2004 vx Prado (built June). All research says this should have a 6 stacker CD player but dash unit only takes 1 CD ? Anybody know why this is so? .

Have you checked under the front passenger's seat?

it should take 6 cd's ,especially so being a vx, i have the gxl and it takes them.....you have to press the load button before loading each cd in, as it "stacks" them in the stereo unit itself, from memory when you press the button it flashes for a while and then LOAD comes up on the display....the vehicle manual should give you more detailed instructions if you have it....

This is not meant to insult you but you do realize the in dash CD player is a 6 stacker ?? You load one CD at a time by pushing th load button on the left hand side at the top of the unit ?? There is no stacker under the seats like in the 90 series prados....Cheers Steve

Hi all, thanks for replies but I don't have anything under passenger seat nor does my in dash unit have a load button or a picture of 6 cd's. It looks different than the picture from Steve m. I have tried everything to insert more CDs but won't take them. Manual describes using the 3 and 4 preset buttons to load CDs however mine don,t have this function. Does anybody know if earlier models only had a single CD unit? Thanks...jurgs

Sounds like its just a single CD unit then. The previous owner could have changed it over for some reason

Actually I may have been wrong with my comment now I think of it. I know if you get the grande GPS unit as an option there is a stacker as the head unit only holds one cd. Maybe yours is the GPS unit ?? OR has it been changed to an after market unit ?? Cheers Steve

My unit is not GPS unit as your link shows. Looks reasonably simple. Has mp3 logo but not stacker. my vehicle is jun04 so would be interested to see if anyone has one from prior to this date with a stacker. I also note in your earlier photo that you seem to have a larger display area above radio. Mine is smaller and only has a clock and outside temp here. Cheers jurgs

Na mate thats all myn shows as well. Its only the grande with some extra read outs, not the VX either......Maybe pre 04 didnt have stacker ?? Cheers Steve

gxl : 6 stacker plus tape vx : same as gxl grande : gps + 1 cd in headunit , followed by six stacker down under passenger seat

September 04 - Jan 2007

gxl : 6 stacker with mp3 vx : same as gxl grande : gps + mp3 + 4 stacker in headunit



Jan 07 -last model 2009

gxl : 6stacker, auxilary input , bluetooth headunit vx : same grande : gps + bluetooth + auxillary + 4 stack incd...


if yours is a single cd unit, sounds like it is from a GX unit as they have the single mp3 compatible unit.

Also what I did notice was all the 120 04 mods with 4 speed auto had this head unit. The 5 speed autos had the same unit as mine so Im presuming yours is 4 speed auto ?? cheers Steve
