  • VX Rear Passenger Climate Control

    Hi all,

I have purchased a 2004 VX a few months back. It has been cold in the past few weeks and I have carried passengers in the rear of the car. I have tried to set the rear air-con system to warm and turn it's fan on but it only seems to blow cool/cold air even if driver and passenger air-con is set to blow warmish air. This means people in the rear of the car need to wait to get the warmth from the front. Does anybody know if the rear air-con system on these vehicles is meant to be able to provide warm air also or is it just cool air for summer ?

    Thanks for your replies.

there are vents under the front row seats that distribute heat backwards, but from what i can tell, the overhead heating is an overseas thing

The rear system is cooling only in ours, which is a GXL update but I would suspect the same as the earlier VX.

        Cheers Andrew

I have the GXL with option pack2 same as Andrew (I think). The rear system is cooling only. In all the years with Toyota I cant remember Toyota brining any of their Cruisers with rear heating. Pushing the memory cells now but not even the 60 or 80 top of the range Sahara with the ice/heat box had rear heating.

My 1985 fj62 G had rear heating under the drivers seat that the cooling system was plumbed to and had a switch on the dash.
Also my 1990 hdj80 sahara had the same thing under the seat - the overhead system was only cooling. The under seat heater was so effective I often used it instead of the dash heater.

Told you the memory was going. Rear heater is a good idea although in QLD......Na don't need it.

Thanks all for your replies. I guess I can stop trying all the different dials and buttons. Summers is on it's way again soon anyway :-)

I was also puzzled as I have the Grande with Rear Zone Air con but the button only says "Rear Cool", After trying I also gave up! The Rear Cool is great in summer with a black car and leather seats

A few years back if you got rear passenger climate control it did both heat and cool, these
days they only install cooling to the back.
