  • 2nd Start Battery button

Hi guys, what exactly does this do? Obviously something to do with the 2nd battery switching over, but does it give you any notification I.e light? , also how is the electrical system set up, what accessories are running off the 2nd battery , I.e plugs in the rear etc etc

    Thanks

P.s ( search function wasn't much help on this subject )

Have you got a 2nd battery? Are you talking about the 2nd start button under the steering wheel?

Do you have a pic of the button you are referring to? What prado series do you have?

If its the switch to the left of the steering wheel on the 120, label as "2nd Start" then its for taking off in 2nd instead of 1st gear, good for when you want a little less torque and subsequent wheel spin.

Without a little more info though - we will all only be guessing...

Yeah , apologies, in hindsight the information supplied in my question ,didn't have enough information. But in saying that, you fellas guessed right, and nailed it on the head.
Yes I have the 120 D4D 2008 model auto , and Yes the button to the left of the steering wheel, was indeed the button I was referring to.
Glad I know now what it is used for..

To be honest , and at the risk of feeling like a complete fool, I honestly thought it was a button for when you have depleted the main battery of your vehicle , and wish to simply switch batteries, that you use the "2nd Start" button. And consequently never have to worry about being stranded again ( as this was the set up I had in an 80 series with Red Arc switch in it ) .

Yes I feel stupid ops:ops:ops:ops:,but at least Im a little wiser now!

        Thanks guys

                If interested,
I use it mainly to stop the awkward and sudden jump from 1st into 2nd when in low range.

Mostly designed for starting off in snow. And don't worry about asking. I didn't even know mine had one until for about a month. Mine is hidden behind the battery monitor installed by the previous owner and I only saw hit when one of the kids knocked it off

It's the kind of question I expect from you Dodgy.

Have you worked out how to engage 4wd so you can get up hills yet? You know, the hills a 120 can do towing a trailer, but that are too hard to a 150.....

I heard he was getting a trunk monkey. This way the ape can fetch beers from the fridge whilst dodgy is driving and can also change tyres when they go flat.

Just confirming that a light does come on on the dash to say that the 2nd Start button has been activated. When I was trying mine out it didn't work and after investigating it was found that the plug had not been connected at the back of the switch. Plugged it in and all worked fine.
