  • Reversing camera

Hey guys, the time has come to fit a reversing camera to my prado to the oem sat nag screen.

The only problem is that on the back of the head unit there is two separate plugs for the camera, one is for video and the other takes the reverse signal wire. I have found an adaptor on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....#ht_4088wt_954) which makes the 4 pin plug in the back of the unit take a standard yellow RCA style video plug but I can't find anything for the green trigger wire.

Does anyone know how to get around this?

    Thanks, Josh.

Just buy the OE camera from Toyota, a bit more expensive but plug and play and it looks factory.

The OEM camera is substantially dearer. Where do they go from factory on the 120? I thought they just sat near the number plate light, it's the 150 that has them neatly mounted in the spare wheel holder.

I just wired up a toggle switch with led light and have it with the other switch's over my right knee. That way I can turn it on or off anytime I like and not just when in reverse. Simply ran a power wire to it with fuse and then back to the trigger wire on the head unit. Works fine.

Gypsy, how did you connect that to the head unit though so that it changes the screen input?

Have an after market head unit, but just connected the power to the reverse light wire that comes out of the unit. Works the same as wiring it to the reversing light anyway but this way it's on whenever I want. Mainly use it when towing the caravan.

It is one of the best upgrades I have done.

The previous owner did it for me using the Eclipse camera.

I then replaced the satnav unit as it couldn't play MP3s, the CD stacker was under the chair, no USB or aux in ports and no bluetooth.

The screen is smaller and I didn't miss the GPS. Now using Android + Google maps + Navigation for GPS.

That's why I bought the OE camera, simple and it works.
