This job would have to be one of the easiest, cheapest and therefore and one of the most satisfying you can do (along with the ScanGear 2 installation)! Thanks for the photos and tips.

Thanks to all on PP contributing to this thread, just saved me $69. The prado is due for a 30,000 k service - where they replace the cabin filter, although one wasn't fitted to the GX Limited in the first place "it's in the handbook service" - as the young lad at Clark Rubber next door to the dealer took great delight in cutting up the foam to size for $4. I had never taken the glovebox out - had no need until now - and it was easy with the instructions on this thread, thanks gents!Wherever you go..there you are, it's just more comfortable getting there in the Prado....

I fitted one a month ago, made from the white air cond filter material
Have since done a couple of hundred kms on red dirt thru Karijini, half of it this following mates car, and I used the air on recirc, and then back on fresh when on bitumen (approx 4500kms)
Took filter out today, and def has dust in it. The other side was clean.
The inside of car was pretty much free of dust, and I think the dust we did get inside was tramped in by the 3 Rugrats.
Im going to drop glovebox out of D4D Hilux tomorrow and see whats in there after 110k kmsCheers

I replaced my air filter today and instead of going to Clark Rubber, found a substitute piece of foam at Bunnings (by accident). It is actually a piece of floor cleaning foam. It is the opencell type used in air conditioners. $2.49 each. My Clark Rubber (Nunawading) only wanted to sell me a one metre square piece of foam for $65.
You need two of them and place them side-by side and the scissors and a couple of minutes to trim. It is the exact thickness. You just need to trim the edges. This might be an easier solution for some than going to Clark Rubber. Just look for it in the household cleaning products aisle at Bunnings.2007 GX D4D Auto, 694s, Tint, Dual Batts, long ranger water tank, IPF Fatboys, Brown Davis bash plate, ScanGauge2, Safari Snorkel, Sovereign Bullbar, ARB lift kit

Filter
I have a similar thing in mine, except I use a very fine mesh filter padding from my aquarium. I get it in large packs but only use about 1/3 each time, so I cut some of that up, works a treat.......and now that I have finaly read the whole post, I think I may have to go change it, it is aboout due.LC 120 03 GX V6, Bonnet/Head light Protectors, Home Made Draws.Toyota Tow Bar.Cooper ATR 235/70/R17 RE+. First thing I did after picking my June 08 build Prado was drive out of the yard and stop 100 m up the road and check the aircon filter.
It had the Toyota filter fitted but this looks pretty ordinary so I went to Clark Rubber in Rocky today. I took in the filter holder.
Young bloke there was keen to help - He cut out three bits of 20cm aircon filter to size to fit the holder. Cost about $14 for the three filters and a bit of plastic tube for the tap/outlet where you check for water in the fuel filter.

Air Conditioning/cabin air filter
I decided to check our filter and was surprised at how much it had caught but we are disappointed at the amount of dust that has got through. Time to modify.

Re: Air Conditioning/cabin air filter
TIP: If using the white airconditioning filter material as shown in this thread (or similar materials) you can spray it with aerosol "air filter oil" as used on K&N filters etc.
This sticky oil improves filtration by a considerable amount, especially fine dust filtration. Just a light coat is all you need. Available from Super Cheap auto and alike.

Re: Air Conditioning/cabin air filter
I fitted a RYCO one. It seems to be the same one that is used on Toyota Echos and Corollas and also Subaru Liberty and Outback. Seems to be working fine.Stan
