  • aircon at 16.5 deg

    Hi, guys im having trouble with my aircon in the prado. I took the car into toyota to get regassed and to my suprise it wasnt far off being full but we let the machine do its job of removing, vac then reinstall new gas to recomendations. Problem is now is the temp gets to 16.5 deg at its coldest. The condensor is clean, the low pressure is hot, high pressure is extremely cold, compressor kicks in and is working normally, any ideas what problem could be??

    hi pusslux, have had a little bit to do with a/cs first thing u want to do is to make sure the evaporator is nice and clean if this is clean and free of dirt and mud the next thing to do is check the TX valve or the desiccant bag. With the TX being blocked it can lead to system to run backwards(in a round bout way) the bag ( if blocked or dirty) can lead to the same thing occurring. the bag is really easy to change u will have to get a "expert" to do it as well

      Does it have climate control? Also I assume that the heater flap inside the heater box has been checked to be sure that no hot air is going over the evaporator

          well the only way to clean the evaporator properly is to remove it from under the dash (passagerside) can b a big job as u have to remove the gas, pipes and the rest of the components that attach to it as well. I no that on the old hzj cruisers u can wash them out whilst in place. As Bear63 said check the heater side and make sure at the heater tap is not jammed opened

            Here is a pic of what possibly needs to needs to be done to do the evaporator depending on what yours is , check the simple things first

              tell u what bear63 you are not far off the mark I had a look at mine yesterday and the inlet pipes for the L/H side are just behind the turbo easy to get at from under the bonnet but in the cab is a different story

                I got mine recharged yesterday. System had .065 gm, now has .675 gm in it. Worth the time and cost to do!

                  Hi guys i had some luck with this issue, the heat/cold dial couldnt close off the flap properly so i disconnected this cord (drivers side) and pulled the flap to its proper position. Its down to 9 deg now which im pretty happy with for now

                    9 degrees is a fairly normal vent temp for the Prado's , sometimes they are a bit lower when new , but that temp is fine

                      Well, would appear that I no longer have A/C or rather A/C that blows cold air.

                      I have heard of some people cleaning the drain port on the condenser - anyone got photo's of where that would be on my '06 D-4d?

                        Anyone got some pics or can point to a thread where the heater tap is described so I know what to check?

                          they don't have a tap, they have a mixer flap inside the aircon box inside the cabin and the coolant circulates continuously through the heater core, its inside the box on the right in the picture

                            Yes down in the footwell on the drivers side you will need to take a cover or 2 off so you can see a cable. I removed that cable and could feel that the "flap" wasnt fully closing. I will leave this disconected until i can be bothered fixing. I knew the aircon was working due to the "big pipe" was almost to cold to touch
