The one thing for me is moulded plastic storage holes on the rear door and inner rear guards using the massive voids between the inside plastic and outside tin. You could store tools and recovery kit etc in there and not chew up precious space.
To be honest it surprises me some aftermarket mob having made ones you can buy and swap the standard trim out for one with a bin and cover on it.
The damn auto trans gear changes.
Talk about hopeless.
Have to throttle off to change up. Kicks back the second you start to accelerate a bit like up a relatively small hill.
I would also like to see a manual switch to lock up the torque convertor. FYI, "Wholesale Automatic Transmissions" in Vic do a kit for this.
Davis you must have a problem with it. This is my 3rd Prado all autos latest is a 120 auto 05 speed no problems except when using cruise control.... Maybe it needs a service.... Cheers Steve

Thanks Steve,
It will change up very nice on very light throttle acceleration, But to accelerate with the crowd, it ends up just sitting there revving and not going any faster. If your patient and dont mind it doing that, it will eventually change up. I just lift the foot for a second and it changes straight away.
I serviced the box, its all good. Yotas, typical kicking down is a pain too. Cant get to put some power into without it kicking back. (Forget using cruise on anything other than dead flat country). Would be nice to be able to get into the ECU and alter a few settings.
Cheers, Davis.

It sounds like theres some adjusting thats needed.
"", it ends up just sitting there revving and notgoing any faster"" this is not normal. I can be gentle as with mine and it will change to next cog and you don't even feel it, I can nail it and will go to redline in each gear but gear change is smooth as. Only time it holds in gear is if Im going down hill and I dab the brake it will kick itself back so as to hold so not braking so much nd then when back on the throttle it will change back to higher gear which is normal... If you have to back off a tad to get it to change gears you definitely have a problem wether its the box or ECU ??.....Cheers Steve
The worst change is 2nd to 3rd. Holds it the most. 3rd to 4th isn't too bad. I have just learnt to live with it. The change itself is smooth. Will leave well enough alone and not worry about it. So long as it keeps going. We travel a lot of the outback desert tracks so reliability is paramount. It has proven to be that. Will eventually go up to a 200s TD to tow an off road van.
Cheers, Jamie.
