    Two other options for you:

Strap him to the bullbar and see if he can hear it over the screams as you drive him around town in peak traffic.

    or

get him to see if he can hear it put he'll have to get nice and close with his head just in front of the front wheel as you roll over it.

He'll soon figure out what the problem is.

      list of faults new grande

Hi all well i have pulled off the bull bar and put the factory set up back on i can say it was a complete waste of time. The vibes are just as bad 1600 to 2000 rpm light load around 97kph in top gear you feel it through the steering wheel as a tingle / pins & needles.Toyota rang today the service manager and the man from Toyota will come to my company on the 3rd Aug we will go over the truck together. The other problem that has not been sorted out is the thud when you stop the drive shaft lube with the copper grease has had no efect. I think there is no fix for this fault this is a 4x4 wind up issue and no amount of messing around will sort it out i think there is to much preload put into the viscus unit for the full time 4x4 i bet the new update model has been sorted out. I can bet there will be no recall for our model as the cost would be masive and its not a safety issue just a designe fault that we will have to put up with bring back the selectable 4x4 system anyway will let you know what happens after the meeting. skycat  :?
      I hope i havent got a lemon, now 4 1/2 years on i know i have.

        Grande faults

Hi all at 10am they came we road testerd and road testerd ,tryed a few things but the vibes are still there. BUT good news we got rid of the drone at 90kph now we just need to fix that viberation i was told that all prados have this fault it seems that most owners are ok to live with it my reply was well im not .The man from TOYOTA said that they would buy back the bullbar and supply new guard liners if i did not want to put the bar back on. I said mate just fix it , the man from TOYOTA said what if we cant, at 12.30pm the meeting was over. At 2.30pm the dealer rang they have offerd me a drive in there company grande to check to see if that viberates this will happen next tuesday. I must say that every one is trying to sort out this issue a big turn around from a few months ago. I will not give up i havent got nasty yet, TOYOTA are still trying so we will see what happens regards Skycat, :?:

          faults prado

Hi there Team Piggy - The part that Toyota has fitted is called a damper it looks like an engine mount . The part number on the damper is 41196-6610 - Damper Differential- BUT there is another item that was replaced its a cast arm witch has two threaded holes in the end these are to mont the damper this kit would cost about $400.00 or $500.00 it is worth having it done if your truck has the dredded drone. so contact your dealer and push to have this mod done, thay may not admit to the fault but TOYOTA no about it just push hard,  This is a fix for the DRONE not the viberation we are still working on that one. I hope this will help others with the same faults  regards Skycat

            grande faults

Well the dealer showed up with a new white grande done 430km. I WAS TO BE SHOCKED maybe mine is not the lemon i thought it was we drove it up and down the freeway and gess what ,ITS WORSE THAN MINE now this is bullshit how could TOYOTA produce a vehicle in its 3rd year of manufacture and still have this fault. Hey this is a Toyota not a cheap LOW COST 4X4. I wonder if we are all being riped off we are told by all that this 4x4 is the best that mony can buy well what do you think. Have a look around the forums ask a few mates sorry to say but maybe its not as good as we have been told. I can tell you that my 1996 SURF is nicer to drive and its ten years old. Next time you drive yours at around 90km on the freeway check for your self does the steering wheel tingle ? TOYOTA is saying it does are they write ? who is kidding who. I will continue to work with the dealer i dont care about all the other faults i want this viberation fixed its drives me mad and i know im not the only one. regards Skycat :x :x

I dont have aGrande only a GXL but mine also clunks upon stopping when the aircon appears to cut out then it clunks. Went to many a toyota dealer eventually found one who gives a toss and he rang toyota they say it is the rear tailshaft slip joint. Dealer did what they said take it off and buff splines so it isnt so tight it worked great for about 8,ooo km but has come back have since taken off again and lubed but still there but it would seem as on right track.

                    list of faults grange

Hi Team Piggy well i cant bring myself to sell it ,we have had so much fun in it and we have sort of "grone" to live with the vibes. I did think that we would get the new grande, i had a look at it at the motor show but its the same as we have now, the guy there said there is no real change untill late 07 at least for the grande petrol.Things have gotten a little better with kms , but it still has the thud and the vibration. I see that i am not the only one though as many others have the same issues, i just hope that Toyota can lift there act. I was told that the Prado was made in Japan. But my Toyota Mate says they are made in Tailand. The plate in the engine bay doesnt say where its made.So where is it made ? i see it came 3rd in the best 4x4 test 2006 Australian 4wd monthly these guys thrashed the ass off these things around Cape York so cant be all bad . hay its a good read to

                        Noise from Fuel Tank

I noticed a loud thumping noise on braking with a full fuel tank in my GXL. I rang Brighton Toyota to see if it was a known fault and to book in to have it looked at - they never mentioned that it was a known fault as I see by numerous posts on this site. My car is nearly 4 years old and I've been very happy with it until now the thumping has started.
I think I'll print out the posts and take them into the srevice team to assist with my confrontation (if they continue the charade)

                          Hey Skycat,

I also have that anoying virbration on the steering wheel. Tell me, when you turn sharp left or right, is the vibration worse? I only noticed it, at first, when I exit a parking bay, etc. When you need to turn sharp left or right. Then I started to notice it when normal driving as well. I also have it at around 1300 to 1600 rpm, but also at 2500 rpm.

I assume no fix from toyo yet!!!!!

Must be a production line thing as i have a 2005 grande and i have not had any of the problems that are mentioned or maybe the guy who owned it before me got it all sorted but dont think so as it was a company car

As an ex Toyota Dealer man, I can assure you they are still made in Japan.
The sticker inside the passenger side of the car will have a plant code of A51, which is in Japan.
The Hilux however, had some models made in Thailand and others made in Japan, and the only way you could tell was the compliance plate.
Interesting enough, we never noticed any quality differences between vehicles made in Thailand or Japan.

                              Cheers, Mat

                                Hi all
Well here we are allmost 4 and 1/2 years and 22000km of owning a 120 Grande it is now time to move on from this pile of JUNK. I am fed up to the back teeth with Toyota to the point that i just cancled an order for a new one and got back my deposit.
You know i just love the 120, it just looks so good. BUT IT ENDS there this is my last post as i am selling it, i have just had enough.
When you read the history of my Toyota you will see its been a long journey.
The latest from Toyota about the vibration and the diff noise is SORRY you will have to put up with it as we cant fix the problem it is a Prado issue. Well here is a list of other issues that i have ignored.
1- The brake system has a dead spot as you apply the brakes and in some cases you can pull up short, can be a worry some times, The wife
wont drive it because if this
2- The engine noise is excessive if you pull up at a drive through you can here valve noise and exhaust noise from the manifolds.
3- During cold start and warm up in the garage you can here the auto trans oil pump screaming, exhaust noise and the valves clacking.
4- The GPS looses its way sometimes.
5- The truck is to soft even on the sport setting.
6- The dash plastic creeks and grones.
7- The 5 speed auto has a mind of its own some times
Here is the list that Toyota tryed to fix
1- The steering wheel vibration, light load up to 1900rpm.
2- Cabin Drone at about 100kph
3- Drive line thump when you pull up to stop
4- Reverse sensor issues. Waist of money
5- Poor dealer service, just hopless.
6- The rear diff has a whine around 90kph on light load
6- Toyota Australia, O what a feeling .thank you So much for for you help. NOT.
As a Mechanic for 45 years i have owned many new Toyotas, One which i still have since 1992 is our old 2.8 Surf just a fantastic old truck,
                                It seems that the new
generation of Toyotas are not built to the same standard as some of the older Toyotas, i think the change happend around 2002.
As the owner of a auto repair shop we see on a day to day basis
many issues in these new cars and 4x4s, a sign of cost cutting and over the top with so called high tech electro crap, that will cost heaps
to repair in time to come. god help us all.
                                regards Peter
