Roof Top Tent Mounting On Trailer

Hi,

I'm tossing up between buying a hardfloor camper trailer or installing a roof top tent on my offroad box trailer. Do I need a tray to mount the tent or can I just clamp it to the ladder racks at the front and back? The ladder racks are 1.5m side and 2.1m apart.

should be able to clamp it to the ladder racks, people mount them on normal cross bar racks on cars so I am thinking ladder racks would be no different. I would be asking the supplier of the tent to ensure the floor is strong enough. Otherwise you could rivet a floor to the ladder racks out of checker plate or something?

I'd be worried about the distance between the racks as they are usually less than 2m when folded up. You could a get a simple ladder frame made up to mount it.

Thanks for the relies. I'll be getting a 4 person tent so it's 2.2m long and opens up to 2.4m wide.

Make sure the racks are up for the extra weight of a tent over just a ladder or two. A gusset might be required towards the axel as you don't want the tent landing in your back seat if you have to brake hard, with the racks bending or coming apart.
