Have also emailed smithy and continue to fight the toyota fight. I dont believe the the cracks are discriminate and have seen cracks in all colours. In fact every 03-05 prado i have checked (about 12) Have all had cracks in at least one of the above locations varying in size. It seems this is gaining huge momentum with media coverage and maybe...just maybe the little guys can have a win. Keep pressing hard boys!!

        Guys,

I had not read about this cracking and was alerted to the fact by Fredster when I saw him last night.

I don't have any cracking on my 10/06 D4D dash but has anyone considered maybe looking at and funding a half page ad in the major newspapers advising of the cracking problems and ask the general public of Prado owners that may not be aware of Toyota's stance or the extent of the cracking issue to advise a point of contact elected by PP members.

This will at least have a better chance of getting to the greater population of Prado owners out there that are not members of PP. Advice could be given in the Ad of the cracking problem with a photo of the cracking around the air bag section, the fact that Toyota advise what they have already stated about warranty and also that the vehicles are unroadworthy but they won't stand by their product being unroadworthy. This will also alert many potential owners of the imminent problem although I do not know the legalities of how it should be done but occasionally do see similar types of ads in the media in regards to class actions.

These are all thoughts because the more people that know about the problem, the better the results if it goes further. I would also have everyone that has the problem to bypass Toyota in Australia and send their concerns with photos to the MD in Japan; if the head honcho in Japan is inundated with emails/letters etc about the problem then he should cause a reaction in Oz. I think to date, I could only find a thread about one letter going to Japan and it was forwarded back to Oz to take care of, which they obviously did not, so I can figure that if Japan are asked by the multitudes of owners to respond to a problem it may get a better reaction and just point out that their counterparts in Oz are not looking after their market.

        I am already considering Nissan once the new model is released after Toyota's refusal to give me warranty on a failed clutch at 80K and did not tell me until after their enforced wait for genuine parts to arrive and be fitted (three weeks) when I could have had it going with aftermarket in three days;

$1300 thank you very much and Fair trading would not do anything about it after they spoke to Toyota, oh and the second clutch is on its way out at 140K so there will be another wallet of cash blown but I can guarantee that it will not be Toyota parts fitted next time round :x :x :x

I reckon it's a brilliant idea. In fact even though mine's a 09 model and i do not have any cracks as yet I'll help by donating some money to the cause. If all of the people who have stated their disgust with Toyota on this thread donate $10 or $20, funding such ads is possible.

In terms of legality...i'm not sure, defamation possibly? But then toyota would have to take the "class action" people to court and they would have to prove that it was our maintenance/miss use that caused these cracks.

Hi guys, ive come across this ....

            http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/ ... fects.aspx

quoted: You should complete the defect notification form only if you have a significant concern regarding the safety of your vehicle that is related to the design and manufacture of the vehicle. The Department of Transport and Regional Services does not deal with issues relating to normal wear and tear on a vehicle.

Would pay off i rekon if all of the people who have got cracked dashboards for the prado to give it a go..... It can only do more good !

I mean we pay extrordinary amount of money for these prados and we expect quality from the toyota name and badge. Hope this issue gets resolved !

My 2006 Grande have recently developed a 4 cm long crack next to the driver's side vent. So rang the local dealer service department to enquire about a warranty claim and first thing I heard is "your prado is out of warranty". I told her I have the toyota 3 years extra care warranty and she then proceed to take all my detail and said she will need to lodge a claim on my behalf to see if the insurer will allow the claim.

Got a call later and was told claim was approved and a new dashboard have been order from Sydney and will arrive in 2 weeks to be replace. Must have been a known problem as I don't even have to show them the crack and no photo was taken to summited with the claim. Anyway, I am happy with the final outcome.

My steering wheel has already been replaced about 30000km due to small cracks.
I have now done 165 000km and is looking very worn and thin , I suspect it won't see another 2 years .

Russ, after Toyota replaced my first one, I bought a leather stitch on cover from a site on ebay, worked a treat , I even got a spare just in case they were that cheap, something like $12 each.

                            Hi All,
I have a 2003 120 which has a Queensland history. It has small spider web cracks around all corners of the dash from left to right. It has had a dash mat for a while (because it is fairly tattered) and an electrical guy in Broome was surprised by it. He does a bit of work on Prados. I think it is heat related and a quality control issue. Will be looking at the wreckers and see if it they all have the same problem. I suspect they are not repairable.

I have now noticed spider web cracks near the glove box very close to the long crack that runs across the dash. No need to post a pix as I guess those having the same problem will know what I am describing.

Slightly O/T. Met a fellow traveller in Cairns a couple of weeks ago with a 2003 Prado diesel & towing a camper trailer. He had no obvious cracking dash problems but had the cracking wheel arch/engine bay fractures mentioned in another thread. Cost him $3500 in repairs including a replacement bonnet as the hinges were stuffed. Second battery on the same side as the first and fracturing all around. Had done a lot of off-road work which may have accounted for problem. He didn't believe it was due to the BB though.

Just went to see the dealer today for 80K KM. serviced and asked them about the crack dashboard issue, they offer me a repair at cost of 12,000 Thai Baht (about AU$ 400) with a guaranteed of no further crack ever again.

Do you guys think this is a reasonable price? :?
