I'd say if they admit blame it would be pretty easy to claim for 100% plus the fitting. What year is your car as they turned down my out of warranty claim>

How come only 1/2 the cost??? My warranty claim cost me nothing! Toyota forked out all the cost + labour, so keep fighting for your rights! The total cost comes to around $2300 anyway!! I have outlined my invoice details earlier on in this thread. If it is warranty, it should be zero cost to you, end of story!!
Was it a different kind of warranty you have? Mine, thankfully, was an extended warranty, paid for by Toyota as a 'gift' for purchasing my VX. Double win situation for moi. Luckily it happened at 5 and 3/4 years out of 6. :P I would be asking them for the full cost, my 2cents worth..

Edited to paste in details from my earlier post.
Part number TO55401600927-C0 Pad sub-assy. Unit price $1615.00, total labour $495, GST $211 so total invoice $2321.00
You're here for a good time, not a long time... Love my Prado...

Unfortunately I did not have extended warranty. However, as they have offered to pay for a portion of the part, they must be admitting there is a problem with the dash. They did not mention GST when they rang me with the "good" news, so I guess that would be an added bonus for me!
Maybe if everyone bombarded them with out of warranty claims in the new year, they would begin to see the light with regards to this problem. I have already informed my dealership that I would wait a few months (after this claim) and do it all again (for the third time!). No problem for me as I just drop my car off and then pick it up in the afternoon...takes up plenty of their time though.

Hi, I just visited Sunshine Toyota at Currumundi and I must say they were a lot more helpful then Ken Mills Maroochydore. Whereas Ken Mills were dismissive and rude Sunshine were very nice and pleasant.
Just playing the waiting game now, this is the 2nd time I've lodged a claim and I wait in anticipation to the outcome. It will be interesting as the previous poster has a 2003 model and we live near each other.
Maybe 2011 will be the year for the cracked dashboard gang ;-)

Well it has taken nearly 12 months and finally sanity has prevailed (in my case). After phone call after phone call and many letters to Toyota, I have finally received a full refund (including fitting) for the replacing of the cracked dash in my Prado. I think my case was a little different as I had the dashpad replaced by my local dealer and have being trying to get 'out of warranty' reinbersment ever since. All I can say is, folks dont give up and keep fighting and I can only hope everybody gets some sort of resolvement of there issue. I would also like to thank my local dealer (Bill Robertson Toyota) for all their efforts in resolving this issue.
Happy New Year and good luck to all.

Okay here it is. Ballina Toyota have told me that Toyota have offered to pay for 1/2 the cost to replace the cracked dash which is $700 all up, fitted. (The service manager said I would be paying the full labor amount of approx $300 and 1/2 the cost of the dash which is 400. I have to the end of the month to decide if I want to go ahead with the offer.

Funny like the other posts, he said a few times that he has never seen this before. I think the employees are told to say this.

What do you guys reckon, should I go ahead and pay the 700 for a replacement? Like the other posts stated, it is an admission to a fault in their product, and they by all rights should pay the full replacement. On the other hand I don't expect there to be a better offer, and would like to have this resolved if it doesn't cause other problems like rattling or damage to other parts of the area surrounding the dash.

Any feedback or suggestions would be helpful.

Sounds pretty much the same as what they offered me, except the labour for mine was $550! (Queensland prices???). Must be the standard response they are currently giving. Like you, I am still thinking about whether to accept this or not.

Is there some way we can let these toyota guys know in all dealerships that its a valid problem and so they dont get angry with us. What a disgrace for Toyota!

I could take mine to Lismore. See if they say the same thing. If you give me the name/details of the guy who told you he has never seen it and if he tries acting ignorant, I would have the opportunity to remind him of your visit and see how he reacts.

Timmy and 03Jos are you still covered by your warranty?

I just acquired an 05 kzj120 and I do have the same problem.

I noticed in the service history a requested was made to have the dashboard install and the part was ordered in 07. I don't believe anything follow up action was ever taken. I will call or perhaps visit Toyota's service centre here in Trinidad and here what they have to say.

Yea sweeks I am the 3rd owner. The car is already 7 years old so I just assumed it is out of warranty.

Chase it up, the more complaints the more Toyota will see this is a case of defective materials.

I still don't know what I am going to do with my 700 offer. They seem to want a decision from me before the end of the month. I am thinking they might want to settle as many claims before this blows up and they instead of going halves in the replacement they will be forced to pay the full amount.

Can anyone here give me a number or address for Toyota that others have called so I can give them buzz. I want to make sure i help Toyota get as many complaints from consumers as possible.

                          Cheers

On closer inspection I noticed the plastic material was worse that I thought. You can gouge the plastic out with your finger nail around the edges. Almost like firm licorice. Toyota must know they have stuffed up here with obvious defective materials.

I have decided to pay the $700 get the dash fixed and move on. I just hope they do a good job with the install and don't create other problems or damage to the trim. I haven't asked if the new dash will suffer the same fate. I would expect Toyota are not that stupid they would replace it with the same shitty defective plastics.

                            Good luck to everyone.

I am in Jamaica and I have the dashboard problem as well. Long cracks running from the center and right a/c vents.
I am very disappointed and intend to take it up with Toyota Jamaica.
Does any one know if there's an email for Toyota International to deal with complaints?
Or if there is an email for my region. Because I know that this will be a long uphill battle based off what I see you guys going through.
And you are in a 1st world country....Imagine the customer care they have here.
