Well mine is late Dec 03 build, first registered Jan 04. I am the 2nd owner and have been doing the servicing myself since I bought the Prado 2.5 years ago. What are my chances of getting a favourable outcome?

Well I just got off the phone with the Service Manager at Torque Toyota in Brisbane, Kevin Leaman. My 2004 Prado goes in on Friday to have photos taken and to have a claim submitted to the factory to see what happens. Since I have an automotive recruitment business and have placed a lot of Dealer Principals with Toyota I am hoping for a favorable outcome. Having said that it might count against me

amts - you will get it replaced, but if they get cute, you will have to take them to a Consumer Tribunal. Bit of mucking around but they don't have a leg to stand on with the 'Implied or Statutory Warranty'. Get them to explain to you how Toyota servicing stops the dashboard from cracking! They didn't try with me, just talked about something else.
Look up the ACCC or it maybe the CTTT for guidance. After you have appealed and written to the Toyota Consumer Relations people. You need these letters to show you have tried to discuss the matter with TMC.
CHF80 - Your model is just in the age limit and you have a relationship with Toyota so you will get the 'Loyalty" treatment! Keep trying though, as above.

Sounds like the same article in the couiermail mail car section last weekend. Thats gets a lot more eyeballs and publicity than Proadopoint and I can guarantee the Toyota DP's are reading that every weekend in Qld.
A smart constant letter campaign could get a lot of attention that Toyota wouldn't want for little effort I suggest.

I have the same problem on my Prado ,went to Torque Toyota in North Lakes they took pictures and sent it off to Toyota Head office, they came back saying my car was out of warranty sorry will not replace anything!! But I argued the fact that a mate of mine had the same problem and his Prado was a 03 and they offered to pay 50% replacement cost? How can we get this sorted out? My dash now has 5 cracks and it lives in the garage as it’s a 3rd vehicle only ever used to tow my boat.Im getting very upset with the attitude of Toyota they know this is a defect in the materials used to make the dashboards.2004 V6 4.0l Grande Pearl white,,

See my post above re the CTTT. Worth investigating, doesn't cost much ($5 for Seniors) and you just need to sit down and write up a case. Use the successful ones in here as evidence. The Tribunal will give you help and advice.

I found an online version of the Carsguide article. Perhaps it needs to be bombarded with unhappy Prado owner's comments.

Not happy Jan!
Well I just got back from Torque Toyota at Northlakes. They phoned me yesterday to say that the photos they took did not come out very well and asked if I could bring the car back in. So I said I would be in at 8:30 today for new photos to be taken.
I arrived and stood around and waited to be served. Then gave up and went inside and asked for the Warranty Clerk - Lynn. Then waited a bit more and she came out and took photos of the car.
When she was finished taking photos she said "Right, now the deal with this is that Toyota is only going to pay for half of the dash and you have to pay for the fitting at Warranty rates which takes around 2.5 hours". I said I have heard of people that have had the dash replaced free. After a bit of back and forth and not willing to put up with her crappy attitude I told her I know plenty of people at Toyota and we'll see what happens. This was meet with "Who do you know, what's there names, who do you know". I didnt play her game and just said that since I have helped sell Toyota dealerships I know plenty of people and dont worry about their names!
The fact that this clerk would even go and tell me what the response from Toyota is going to be before she has even submitted the claim is just bizarre!
Even if Toyota come back and say they will replace it free, or they will only pay half, the work will not be getting done at Torque Toyota! I'll take it to SciFleet instead.
Another strike for Torque Toyota - On the weekend I replaced my brake pads and rotors on the front and the rear. I started with the rear and in trying to get the disc off the retaining spring on the handbrake shoe fell out. I finished putting everything together and drove to Torque Toyota, which is only a couple of k's away from me. The shoe was rubbing along the inside of my brand new disc the whole way! I had all the parts with me and arrived at 11:30 and the service department is open until atleast 12. There was hardly anyone around and I spoke with a Service Advisor and explained the problem. He went out the back to talk with the mechanics, came back and said "nah sorry the boys are about to go home, I can book it in on Monday". I said that is ridiculous, I have all the parts and I am not going to drive around all weekend with a brake issue.
In the end I found a place called Karz and 4x4 at Clontarf on Brisbane's Northside. The door was open to their workshop and there was a young fellow there finishing off a job as the place had closed for the day. I described the problem and he said "I hate having people drive away with a brake problem". He drove the car in, put it up on the hoist, fixed it on the spot and didn't even want to charge me! I insisted he at least take $50 for his trouble. Which he begrudgingly did.
Bottom line - Toyota is giving me the shits.
and
If you are on the Northside of Brisbane and want really good service go to Karz and 4X4 (www.karz4x4.com - 3284 5800). They are also a stockist for Ironman 4X4
Now I am going to ring TMCA!
