  • That's how mine started too MalP, with a crack along the instrument panel.

Unfortunately mine is 11 years old so I'm going to have to fight a little harder to get Toyota to come to the party.

      • I got a new dashboard fitted yesterday. My Prado is a 2004 model. I was polite and persistent. I got knocked back by one dealer and went to another and had success.

        Cheers

Good news. What did the first dealer say? Do you think there was anything in particular you discussed with the other dealer which helped ?

            • It was a strange process. I went to the first dealer, they took photographs, checked my service history (I never had it serviced there) and told me I was outside the 10 year time frame. I mentioned that other members of the Pradopoint forum who had 2003 and 2004 cars had been successful. "Don't pay too much attention to forums" he told me.

I got a call back a few days later saying my claim had been rejected. "Would you like me to put in an appeal" he asked. "Yes please I replied". I also mentioned that it appeared that there was a lot of inconsistency with this issue and that I would take it up with Toyota Australia. Also mentioned that I might be in the market for a new vehicle in the next couple of years and some support from a dealer would not be forgotten.

I then went back through the posts on Pradopoint and found mention of a dealership that had been given a good report. It is 50km from where I live. I went on their website chat line and told my story. After 30 minutes I got a call from them asking for my rego. That afternoon they rang back and said my claim had been approved and a service date agreed upon (The date was in 4 weeks time) This was organised without them ever seeing the Prado.

Would you believe two weeks later I got a call from the original dealer saying my appeal had been successful and I could bring the Prado in, in three days time. Even got a text message to confirm the booking.
              .
Dilemma, do I go with them as they are only a five minutes from home, or stick with the second dealer who is 50km away.

The next day, the close to home dealer, rings and tells me the dashboard fitting would have to be delayed for 10 days as they were having supply problems. I waited until the 9th day, rang them to confirm the booking only to be told it now could be 6 to 8 weeks.

              Dilemma over.

I took it to the 50km away dealer, they gave me a courtesy car, to get back to work and now I have a brand new dashboard. Yes I rang the original dealer yesterday to advise that I had the dash fitted elsewhere.

It appears to me that this process is very much dealer driven. Keep at them for a solution.

              • Looks like good news. Had a call yesterday from the dealer, needed a little more information so they can order the new dash.

Your previous posts mentioned that you had the Prado for 7 years. Is that since new? What is the build month/year?

It's a great pity Toyota don't appoint a social media manager who DOES pay attention to the forums. I have been through a similar experience with my Dealer and Toyota call centre (regarding another issue) and when I mention the forums and similar complaints on the Internet I get stonewalled and told that Toyota don't comment on what is found on the Internet. This is rather convenient given that they don't like owners gaining the collective knowledge that such forums provide. It seems that the whole dash process is completely random and largely up to the dealership. Perhaps the larger dealers have more clout with H.O? Might be useful to produce a list of dealers who are honouring >10 yrs.

I got the same advice when my engine blew: don't believe what you read on the internet the service manager said.

                        • This is the response i got!

                          Hi David,

Thank you for your email. I have checked the Toyota bulletin regarding the cracked instrument panel & unfortunately your vehicle is outside of the replacement age. The bulletin states that the vehicle must be within 10 years of age from the date of first registration & for your vehicle, that was the 21/08/2003.

I have checked with our workshop foreman regarding the airbags & he has reassured me that there is bracing in place for the airbag components so they won't be compromised from the cracked dash panelling.

If you have any further questions or queries, please don't hesitate to call me on 08 9842xxxxxor reply to this email.

                          Kind regards,

My mate works at Toyota and it is a bulletin but they wont fix unless everyone complains.. Complain everyone.

                          • Hi Amts. My Prado is late 2007 and I’ve had it for two and half years now.
When I got it there where sticky patches on the dash from a dash matt.
The whole interior was in very good condition except where mic cables had rubbed on the silver trim.
