I'm just looking into our cracked dash with Toytoa for our 2003 Prado GXL. A long shot but worth a little investigating seeing it had started to crack many years ago. I'll put up an update if i get any answers good or sad!

Finishing material cracks over the airbag won’t effect the airbag safety whatsoever. From what I understand 2007 models on don’t suffer from the cracking. I think it’s 2007 on. Mine’s a 2005 & cracked regardless of windscreen sun shade or decent thick coats of ArmourAll use. Windscreens are laminated glass & as such block out 99% of UV rays so it must be heat related damage, not UV damage. Where I live it’s super hot like all the time & holds the 2nd highest all time temp record for Qld (49.4 deg).

Does anyone have any proof that the original part was actually faulty? Or proof that the replacement part is made out of new material?
or any proof that cracks over the airbag may cause a safety concern?
Im all the way to NCAT arbitration and Toyota Australia are being stubborn

Take it to your local dealer and raise a warranty claim with them. As said above, there are quite a few that have been done under warranty even older than mine.Originally posted by SpudGun View PostMine is a 2006 model with a well cracked dash, and I’m very interested in understanding what’s involved in changing the dash. Did you buy from Toyota? What did you do with the odometer? Can you transfer the old reading to the new dash?
If it is rejected then the only option is to buy the part from Toyota locally as it is too large to ship from Amayama/Partsouq/SSG/etc due to shipping costs. The speedo isn't replaced as part of the process.

I have just had mine done under warranty. All I had was labour costs. Well worth the try.

Guest repliedDon't email, you have to go to a dealer and request images are taken and sent off to Toyota. There has literally been Dozens getting them replaced all across Australia.

That's interesting mine is actually pretty good though. It's only got a few cracks in the corners and doesn't seem that tacky yet so I doubt I'd have much luck with Toyota. Maybe I'll shoot them an email for shits and giggles.Originally posted by Piggy View PostSame same, but who knows what the internal compound is now..
In other news, a heap a 120 owners have been approaching Toyota and asking for the dashboards to be looked at and replaced. Some are getting it for free, others are having to pay between $300-1200 labour and they get the dash pad supplied free. Well worth giving it a try, they seem to have turned around the 10 year thing now.
Seems about 70% are successful.

Thread bump. Does anyone know if the replacement dash's from Toyota are actually better/don't crack? Did the late 120's change to a hard plastic dash?

Did you by chance do a "how-to"? on the dash pad removal and install.
Cheers

Sorry to break it to you, you can raise a claim but your well over the 10 year cut off.Originally posted by DRC View PostThe dash on my 2005 120 has just started cracking. Thought I was ok but over the last few months several have appeared. Immaculate otherwise. Don’t suppose I can raise a claim against Toyota?
I tried everything a couple of years ago and I was just over, ended up buying a new dash and fitting it myself.

Thanks everyone who responded to my inquiry regarding the cracked dash pad, the vehicle is not under warranty, but I have written to Toyota and awaiting a response as this is a manufacturing defect.
Regards .
