2003 GXL - cracks begain to appear last year over the instrument panel and have now spead across to passenger side.

Very disappointed :cry:

G'day Guys,

Just a quick update on my progress. I have just got off the phone to Jessica Bosden, said she hasn't hadn't had anything to do with the prado dashes and appeared shocked that there were other prado's in this condition. Not sure what the go is there.
So i will now goto department of fair trading RTA NSW and lodge a defect notice with government website.
I am from a toyota family, always owned toyota's. With what has been going on with them and now the way they have ignored this obvious manufacturing problem. i dont know, i dont think i am toyota person anymore. I used to crap on about them to everyone how good they are. Not any more. Shame i really liked being a toyota person.

I still love my Prado, but when replacing the Camry doubt it will be with anther one. Probably go with the more reputable brands, Mazda or Subaru.

I think it is fair to say that no one is going to get a satisfactory outcome by going through Toyota. Putting external pressure on Toyota seems to be the only chance as far as I can see.

Had a good chat with someone from the 'A Current Affair' office at Channel 9 this afternoon.

After explaining the situation they appeared interested in the unfolding issue. I should be clear however that I was not speaking to a CH9 Producer who ultimately decide if the story will be pursued.

The ACA desk have requested those affected by this issue send an email to their respective state Producer as soon as possible- explaining what problems you are having with your dashboards cracking and as well as a brief account of how you have been snubbed by Toyota. ACA would also like to receive any pictures you have of your cracked dashboards and copies of any letters you have received back from Toyota (basically telling you to shove it). If you have anything else to contribute, include that as well.

The email address to send this to is [email protected] - please put "Attention (then your state, eg. Qld, NSW etc) Producer" (so mine will be 'Attention Qld Producer') in the subject line of your email.

THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT

Please take a few minutes to do this - we have some chance of exposing this bullshit via the national media and force Toyota to respond (other than the arrogant snubbing we have received as individuals to-date). ACA are likely to only look at this if they receive many contacts regarding the problem! Please don't put this in the too hard basket.

If you have already tried to contact ACA via their online form please retry via the email address above - this is a far better avenue and is much more likely that the issue get in the hands of the right people rather than get caught up in the thousands of online submissions.

Did anyone hear about the latest issue unfolding in the US - a significant motoring body (not sure who) have a slapped a "Do Not Buy!" review standard on a new Lexus 4x4 because of safety concerns - they haven't had cause to do this in over 10 years apparently. The last thing Toyota need at the moment :lol: and maybe an opportune time for us to step up the fight and get the national media here involved.

2 out of the 3 2003 and 2004 Prados I checked out at Old Mac Toyota (in QLD) had cracked or repaired cracked dashboards around the instrument cluster. The 03 Prado (Grande) I eventually bought privately has no cracks so far but I am expecting them. It has a dash mat.

I was actually looking how to replace the dashboard as mine is cracked. But he i'm not the only one it looks like. SO ADD ME TO THE LIST!

I still want to know how to remove the dashboard as a new one can be bought here for 1400AED that's about 380USD. If it is not to diffelcult I will do this myself.

That is distressing, to see that on a 6 year old vehicle. :cry:

It has crazed cracked (painters terms for defective paint, looks similar to this) all over the passenger side dash area over the airbag. Toyota has something to answer for, in regarding this matter! This would make the vehicle defective regarding the condition the dash is in. Come on TOYOTA get these vehicles rectified, because BAD PUBLICITY doesn't help in relation to problems like this.

The longer this continues with TMCA doing nothing, the bigger & deeper hole they are creating, for themselves with current and future sales.

That is really upsetting to see....... I just can not fathom what would cause a 6 year old dash to do that.

Touch wood...... but my 04 is still fine ...... (but I am starting to worry)
