  • TCC are telling me that its all up to your dealer and basically stop bothering us.
Ill see what happens from the appeal and hopefully they will do the right thing.
Im happy enough to be fair, its 8 years old, service history a little dubious in part and Im the second owner so if they come the party for 100% parts I would be content enough.

    Keeping my fingers crossed!

    • Update, I thought I would annoy TCC again, what have I got to lose??? Apart from everything!!
Anyway, I was greeted by a much nicer lady who said she would investigate for me and speak to the warranty team and to the dealer to make sure they have provided as much info as possible towards my case.
She said she would get back to me personally on Monday and let me know the status, not the answer but at least if everything possible has been done.
It was a much more pleasant conversation this time.
Quite a difference from last time with TCC and the dealer so Im hoping for a better result.
      See what happens next week.

Is there any merit in numbers. I've been holding off from going to castle hill Toyota because of their "attitude" (previous experience) but if there are a couple of us and or anyone else in the area they might be a bit more obliging?

I think it just may piss him off more (CHT staff that is) if we gang up on them.
Remember its up to them to make a case for you so I think (at the moment at least) to be calm, polite and continue asking nicely for assistance.

Id wait and see what happens and if favourable then you can use me as your example.

In hindsite (wonderful thing that) I probably should have picked another dealer but I didnt know any better at the time.
I hear Windsor Toyota are pretty good as is West Ryde Toyota.

          Cheers

            • GXL 120 dash crack

I am also a member of the cracked dash club. My 2004 120 GXL dash has cracks all over it.
I have seen my Toyota dealer and they submitted an out of warranty claim. They offered to pay half the part cost (as you all know this means I will be over $1200 out of pocket for fitting). I then emailed the big bosses at Toyota saying I was not happy and wanted them to replace the faulty part for me at no cost. I included all the information I have seen on the forum including the fact that they have replaced some dashs for free and that clearly this is a known fault.
They refused and offered the same out of warranty offer. I am very disappointed and do not feel I should have to pay for their crappy part. I don't know what to do next, I don't want to give up. Let me know when the class action starts.

              • i just heard back from bridge toyota in darwin. half the parts will be covered and i pay 4 hours labour. should cost me $900. i asked about appealing and they told me tht i could but if the decision was less favourable they would have to go with the second offer. I thought that $900 was ok and will go with that. the car is 7 years old and well out of warranty so i'll just take it. maybe i might get a better result if i persisted but i'm not really prepared to risk it.

                • Congrats, thats not a bad outcome.

I still havent had any reply to my appeal.
They offered half the parts and it was still going to cost me $1300 by their calculation so I appealed.
If they had said $900 like you I wouldnt have appealed but $1300 is just too much.
                  Hope they come good

                  • I just got a call from the dealer and Toyota have refused to do any better than a "good will" gesture of 50% parts only.
They want $1300 to replace the dash
really cant afford that sort of money but I think for the sake of resale and that I plan to keep it for a while I will have to find it somehow

Sorry to read about your crap offer. Wish the dealers would be consistent, now theres a thought for Toyota. The japanese are all about quality control and consistency yet the dealers seem to offer very different offers. well at least i know to steer clear of CHT. might try the others that have been suggested around sydney. wonder what the insurance companies would be charged for this type of work? my excess would only be $500. might read my policy and see what it says

i got told 4 hours labour and the 50% of parts i'll have to pay was at warranty price, not retail price. maybe that is where the price descrepancy might be. good luck

This is probably good advice for those who have not been able to get Toyota to come to the party with a reasonable replacement cost
Get insurance to repalce it after a 'mishap'.

                            • Hi, i also have a cracked dash. It is a hairline crack from the air vent on the center passenger side all the across to the outside vent,,it is also a curved crack. In the last couple of weeks it has now a smaller crack started pretty much following the same path below the first. Would definatly be interested on how you go with repairing it and how it looks. Ours has pretty much been a bitchumen vehicle with the occassional dirt road. The latest crack appeared while away on holiday in NSW where the roads are awesomly looked after unlike our home roads of QLD...
                              Cheers,
