For all you owners with (dash) cracks - thought I'd better clarify that - is there any correlation to dash colour or any evidence whether use of Armourall type cleaner or dash mats makes any difference?

My cracked dash is a light color as is the door trim, centre console etc. yet no problems have (pardon the pun) surfaced there. Only use water to wipe the interior down. The 18" horizontal crack is on a vertical face of the dash so doubt a mat would have helped with sun protection.
Likely causes I can think of include:
- poor UV rated material causing the surface to shrink or the padding underneath to swell or
- a design fault in securing the dash to equally distribute forces along it's length causing deformation hotspots e.g. surface stress fractures or
- these in combination with other factors.

Well my car has had a dash mat from new and it has still cracked and more recently on the passenger side! It first started over the instruments and ran down beside the silver strip with the air vent in it.
Anyone have any other suggestions as I'm out and really want it done like everyone else!! Maybe if we all organise to call the same call center on the same day until something gets done2005 GXL Prado, Bilstein Shockers, King Springs, IPF 900xs, Steel ARB Bullbar, 12000lbs winch, GME 3540 UHF, Weaco 50L & 38L, Dash mat, carpet and rubber Prado mats, awesome after market head unit BF Goodrich & more to come

Not one person has mentioned A Current Affairs Or Today Tonight ?? Maybe its about time some one contacted them and went from there. There is enough owners of prados with the problem on here to cause a stir and dont think Toyota would want the negativity plastered over the tv.. I dont have the issue (not at the moment anyway) but this is definately where Id be heading if I did have the problem.....Cheers SteveFace lift 150 Prado V6 auto. No mods yet

I emailed through to TMC today (3rd time) and told them that unless I hear something from them within 48hrs then I would be going to either Current Affair or Today Tonight or both!!!
They quickly responded and said they have sent my warranty request trough again and will let me know as soon as they get an outcome and they thanked me for giving them another chance so let's see what happens this time! I will keep you posted2005 GXL Prado, Bilstein Shockers, King Springs, IPF 900xs, Steel ARB Bullbar, 12000lbs winch, GME 3540 UHF, Weaco 50L & 38L, Dash mat, carpet and rubber Prado mats, awesome after market head unit BF Goodrich & more to come

I notice in todays 16/3/12 Sydney Telegraph [pg 101 / 27]carsguide used guide,[under used corolla review] that they are seeking expressions of owners experience for an upcoming used review of Prados . It may be an opportunity for us owners to give our feedback and highlight this cracking dash issue.Remembering that the carsguide is usually featured in most news limited papers around the country so the exposure may embarass Toyota a little more.I intend to respond when time permits.

What did they want a review on? The car as a whole??? I will email him over the weekend and mention the problems with the dash as well because besides the dash I love my car2005 GXL Prado, Bilstein Shockers, King Springs, IPF 900xs, Steel ARB Bullbar, 12000lbs winch, GME 3540 UHF, Weaco 50L & 38L, Dash mat, carpet and rubber Prado mats, awesome after market head unit BF Goodrich & more to come

This was the emial I just sent him. I imagine if people send ones this long they will cut them down to a certain degree but hopefully they are going to put in the bad bits a well as the good......this was my reply...........Fantastic 4wd. Would have to be one of the best 4wd's I have owned. I have the 4L V6 2005 GXL in auto form. The only letdown with these vehicles is the increasing amount of 120 prados (built 02 to 09) having an issue with their dashboards cracking quit severly. If out of warranty your looking at approx $1500 to $2000 for a full replacement. This is a known issue with Toyota BUT they are not very forth coming in wanting to fix it. This should be repaired even out of warranty due to the obviously faulty material used in the manufacturing of the dashpad and the fact its also cracking over the airbag (which is illegal) on the passengers side which could impede on the deployment of the airbag or could harm some one or blind them with the sharp edges of the splintered bits been blasted towards the passengers face in the event the airbag needs to deploy with such extreme force. The petrol motor is fantastic although fuel consumption may be a tad high for some its super responsive and extremely smooth. The D4D diesel is powerful also and gives great fuel economy. There were some issues with the earlier D4D's with injectors but have been superseeded. Great family car, roomy, comfortable, great for off road, heap of extras available, and have the big 180 fuel tanks for touring which based on the under 10L per 100 for the D4D will give any body who wants to travel remote areas all the fuel they need between fuel supplies in the outback. There is a link here http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?12073-Cracked-dashboard to a website called pradopoint indicating the issues with the dash board issues and available pictures showing in some extreme cases the way the dash boards are cracking but in general other then the dash they are a fantastic vehicle.........Cheers Steve MillerFace lift 150 Prado V6 auto. Good on ya Steve - To the point exactly. Lets hope a lot more Pradopointers also send in e-mails and TMC finally admit to a manufacturing fault and come to the party and fix ALL cracked dashboards free of charge.
