    New Prado Model

A customer of mine supplies custom-buuilt accessories to Toyota directly for various models and he indicated to me that he was told recently by Toyota that he would receive specifications for the new Prado very early next year. His expectation is that the new model will hit around March 2009.

I like to take bets on the timing of the new model, i reckon it will closer to March 2010 than March 2009.

        My 2 cents.

Thats what my dealer has said Hutch. Model details are due for release very late 2009, and then the model will be released early 2010.

Yep, order one now for a 12-18 month wait. Hmmmm. Not sure about that. But compared to our current model wait, I wonder what the actual wait would be once it is released for sale in Australia.
I for one would put an order in as soon as I knew what it contained compared to what we have now.

2010 would be great for me, mine is due 2011 so their should be plenty of kit for it by then. Perfect timing.

i think the body shape will overall remain very similar to current one with some deeper more well defined grooves in the bonnet, removing some of the elongated designs of the headlights in favour of the squarer stumpy designs similar to the new 200 and kluger and also have the wider sides under the window line

The roof will be slightly longer and squarer tail end, smaller and stubbie front/rear lights, a std bonnet scoop for the diesel D4D and a TRD supercharged tiptronic V6 Twin batteries, a std 5 seat config and lumbar adjustable front seats wilby stock on GLX models up. A high possibility fuel tanks will not be so big as spare may be carried under rear on some models.

Final designs for full production maybe closer than you think.

Car dealers get their info from websites and throgh mags - If you were toyota inc would you trust any of your car salespeople with any secret new design info ?

                    Well!

I was going to say... given the spy pics are already making the rounds, I think the new model would likely be only 12 months away and not the 24 months being bandied about.

But Spurio's post is very, very enlightening!!!

                            Love your sarcasm Spurio.

Enywaaaay... this TRD Hilux is a good pointer methinks. Talk about torque, it almost renders the D4D insignificant! I DID SAY ALMOST!

Toyota’s new performance 4x4 ute adds an Eaton supercharger to the SR5’s 4.0-litre six-cylinder engine to boost power by nearly 30 per cent – up from 176kW to 225kW. Torque increases by 20 per cent, from 376Nm to 453Nm.

Toyota claims the TRD HiLux will accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in 7.2 seconds, 1.5 seconds quicker than the SR5 model.

Surprisingly, the supercharged ute’s official fuel economy figure of 12.9 litres per 100km (running on the recommended premium unleaded) is identical to the SR5’s despite the increased performance. Toyota admits, however, that the TRD HiLux is likely to use more fuel than the SR5 in the real world.

                            But here's the bad news...
The TRD HiLux is offered in two trim levels – the $59,990 4000S and $64,990 4000SL.

Both versions carry a significant premium - $9500 and $14,500 respectively - over the current range-topping SR5 HiLux, though in addition to extra features the TRD HiLux offers more than just a bit more performance.

                              Early 09

I was talking to my fleet sales rep and she is starting to take expressions of interest in the new model due early 09. She did say that Toyota keep pushing back the date. But I'm now on that list so when I hear something I'll let everyone know.

I would put another spin on the TRD (or any HSV, FPR) models.

If you were to purchase a normal model, then spent the difference on upgrading engine, suspension and interior, wouldn't you have a better vehicle ? A $10-15K fit out will buy and make a very nice setup.

The centre of gravity plus additional weight is an issue with a power upgrade on a prado, it is significantly higher than a Hilux. Therefore lowering the vehicle and ultimately reducing off road ability is a design issue.

Toyota need to consider the future market potential in Australia for a special vehicle. For example, to go for a full bore off roader or a sporty onroad design. Would a bushpig version be more appealing than a doublebay cruiser ?

Again, I am only speculating
