I've got a 120 D4D and I've been thinking of going to a petrol after having to replace 2 sets of injectors. Its only done 170000 km. Modern diesels are too high maintenance these days.

Others have mentioned it and theres threads about already - if you're choosing the diesel just because you reckon it will be cheaper to run over the petrol, think again and do some sums. More often than not it just doesn't work out that way.

I bought a 120 petrol auto and I'm very happy with it. I kept $10k in my pocket with this option. I get about 1000kms from full around town. Now that petrol is cheap its even better but who knows how long that will last.

For comparison we have a 150 D4D at work. It spends its life driving around loaded up and gets really crap fuel economy, worse than my 120 V6.

Your approach is incorrect. Get yourself stuck a few times and have her help dig.

FYI, I did the sums on a previous thread - whilst the diesel is cheaper, by the time your factor in the injectors they pretty much work out the same (diesel was marginally ahead).

Given the known issues with the diesels compared to petrol, it would really have to suit your circumstance to want to change (e.g. towing, long distances, resale).

Mate. Stick to the petrol. Less headaches and the 1grfe v6 motor is way too reliable. more power. Chance of supercharger installation.
Our of all the modern petrol 4wd the prado v6 is definately one of the most fuel efficient anyway when it comes to petrol.

Grass isnt always greener on the other side.

You only need to take a quick skim through the diesel thread subject lines and you will notice such words as: "detonation", "injector recall", "coolant loss" to name a few. Then have a similar skim through the petrol section to see what is being discussed there and you can decided for yourself. I have the petrol after owning a CRD and 1HZ cruiser with turbo I/c and 3" exhaust and the petrol is the clear winner for my use.

Yeah but a D4D with a bonnet scoop looks the ducks nuts, whereas the V6 with a scoop just looks silly
