    [quote="LiveFreeAndRoam"]Good info HaloJump.

I guess you will already had the free service? That first free one is available up to 5,000 kms. I'll probably be putting mine in at SciFleet next week with around 3,000kms on the clock.

When I had my "free" 5000k service done in 2006 I had to pay for the oil change and replacement filter.

This was strange as the service guy told me that "you don't need new oil after only 5k"; when on a different vehicle (Prado VX) two years earlier the service guy said that the oil "...had to be changed at about 1000klm".

      UltraTune $140
      Midas $135

Haven't tried many others, only what was near my work @ Taringa (Brisbane)

I'm on a lease and have factored in the 5000km service but still end up paying for service out of my service budget.

For now, I'll stick with the Toyota guys but woudl be happy to try soemone on the Northside who is fairly competent.
Halojump, isn't the new D4D a 10000klm service interval, why waste your money??

Nobody has yet mentioned (OR 6 MONTHLY INTERVALS) That would equate to 5,000kls for a lot of owners
The ones that clock up the 10,000kls in under 6 months, would be a reasonable amount of constant running which I could not see being a problem. (roughly 420kls per week)

I fit in between, so I go by the 6 Monthly intervals 8)

You can also buy your own oil and filter and ask Toyota to use yours and not the overpriced toyota stuff. I have done this several times , they cant really say no if you buy good quality oil and filters. I use castrol Magnatec and Ryco filters.

I still like Peter at Palmview, his place might look like a tin shed but he's good at what he does. He treats his customers with respect (ie as a woman I don't get treated like a blonde bimbo). If it's something he's not familiar with or is not able to do something he recommends someone decent to go to. He still does the little things eg if a hinge on something squeaks he'll lube it, with out being asked of charging. If you like to supply your own oil and filter he'll use it.
My friends daughter took her car out to him after being ripped off else where and after he serviced it he went over it with her and gave her a list of what her car needed doing to it in order of importance, showed her how to do some basic stuff herself like checking the coolant level and replaced her damaged washer bottle at no charge.

I have decided to do my own oil-changes every 5000km, and get it properly serviced every 10,000km from a mechanic I have known for years.

If I could have the last 2 years back I would be a lot richer :?
Simmo, I used to think the same thing but have you compared the cost? I get charged about $100 for the 5000km oil change which might sound like alot for an oil change. However, I used to do the same on my Pajero myself, and it cost me $45 for oil and $35 or so for the filter.

Maybe Prado filters are cheaper, but for $20 or so I am quite happy taking it to Toyota to let them get dirty and spill oil on their floor rather than mine.

That's the way I see it, maybe I'm just lazy!
Agree Midge, i think you need factor the value of your own time into doing this sort of stuff yourself, unless you are doing it for the fun of it

I know i would rather be kikkin the footy or other such stuff with the family.

Plus my Toyota dealer does after hours servicing, very convenient :!:

Indeed the service log book has no provision for the 5000km service and there is some debate about whether or not the new D4D needs the intermediate service (oil and filter change).

I am on target to do around 48000km this year, so doing a service every 5000km will see me getting an oil change every month or so. This is way too much I feel.

Talking to a range of Toyota dealers only makes the situation more confusing in that some say the 5000km service should be done and others say don't bother.

I may get the first 5000km oil change done this week and see how we go @ 10000km+

Hi AJ, Cornes Toyota Belair Road Hawthorn 82721488.

Have bought several work vans from them, the Prado we bought from Peter Kittle on Main Nth Road but we get the Prado and the work van serviced at Cornes Toyota.

I often drop the van off on the way home from work and either pick it up later that night or first thing in the morning. Time (off the road) is money :!:

I see the Apr 08 on Prado's now come with the fixed price servicing for 3years or 60000km's, $180 per service.

Don't know how this compares to previous service cost?

When I asked a salesman about this, he said that Toyota are covering their costs by taking a significant chunk of the profit from the sale. He anticipated price increases to cover this.

In the end, someone, somehow has got to pay. It will be interesting to see if Prado's will have a small price increase. Though, this may simply mean less bargaining power at purchase time, so we'll never really know.
