  • Strip her down or sell with the fruit

Has been a good journey but time for our Prado to go.
Has served us well for various 4WD family touring adventures, however has hardly been out of the city over the past 4-5 years so going something more practical for Sydney commuting.

She has a stack of gear, and I am in two minds whether to strip her down and sell the parts or sell as is.

Probably a lot of work for little extra gain and leaving the extras on might help to sell it a bit quicker.

Just curious if any one else has gone down this path and was it worth the trouble.

    It is a 2003 120 series GXL V6 5 speed manual with 187,000kms.

Here is the list of extras:

ARB deluxe bull bar with foglights
    WARN XD9000 winch (never used)
    Cibie Oscar spotties
    Toyota towbar
    ARB Air Locker (rear)
    ARB on board air compressor
    Reverse camera and rear sensors
    Bilstein shocks
    OME HD front springs
    RidePro med rear springs
    Polyair bags
(Also have some extra OME HD rear springs and RidePro med front springs sitting in the garage)
    GME TX3420 UHF
    Safari Snorkel
HD chasis mounted steel side steps
(Toyota factory side steps also available)
    TJM underbody protection tray
Rhino Rack HD 3 bar roof racks
Rhino Rack alloy luggage tray with rear spotlight (might give this to my brother in law)
    Rhino Rack spare wheel carrier
    ARB side awning
Tekonsha P3 Prodigy electric brake controller
    Dual battery system
Extensive heavy guage wiring with additional 12V outlets
Tralier charging from dual battery with Anderson plug
Double DIN DigiOptions touchscreen multimedia entertainment unit with SatNav, Bluetooth and reverse camera display
    Rear headrest monitor/DVD
    Cargo barrier
Custom rear drawers with fridge slide
    Trek tailgate mounted picnic table
    Stebel air horn
    Diff breathers
    Sandgrabba moulded floor mats
    Tailored carpet floor mats
    Snatch strap
    Additional spare wheel
Other misc items (spare hoses, workshop manual etc)

Was thinking around $13K as is.

    Thoughts?

    Cheers - Byrnsie

If you are not going to get a replacement 4x4 then maybe sell as is, as you mentioned might help the sale. Could be worth grabbing some selective things like the Tekonsha if you are going to tow, say the roof racks if you can fit them to the new vehicle, things like that.

    regards
    Geoff
Blue Storm 150 D4D GXL, Toyota Tow Bar, Cheepo floor mats, Tough Dog Springs & Shocks, Colour Coded TJM T13 steel bar, KingOne winch with rope, GME 3440 80 channel uhf. Not allowed to make hole for snorkel - yet..

If you're not in a hurry you could put a few things up for sale here as you might get some bites. Things like the roof racks, brake controller, rear drawers, sandgrabbas, spare wheel and even the winch.
A couple of other things could be, if you have the original headrests you coud swap them back out and put the dvd ones in the next car.
A big job, whether it's worthwhile or not, is if someone wanted to swap out their standard diff with your locker.

Depends on how much time and effort you want to put into it.
But that set up for $13k with low k's (for the year) sounds like a decent buy for someone as well
Our 6 year old and 3 year old try their hardest to make sure there is no time or money for the other baby

I would have a go selling it as is for that sort of coin. Someone starting a build could do worse that to snap it up, transfer all the goodies onto their rig and on sell the standard vehicle. Or you may just got someone looking for a rig ready to go.

        Cheers Andrew

Basing my price on Redbook valuations. I thought I was being optimistic.

                  Strange, I had a look at redbook valuations on carsales & they say $15 - 18k with 180 - 300,000ks

When I was looking for mine, majority of the V6's with anywhere from 180 - 250,000ks were going from 15 - 18k with absolutely nothing on them - not even bullbars.

Unless you desperately need to offload it, have a look around at the competition and price range - redbook is usually really really undervalued & doesnt take into account extras -and you have thousands worth of extras on yours!

                    Agreed.

I have been searching nightly for about 2-3 weeks(as a buyer) and your car with all those extras you should get about 18k and that would be pretty quick sale. As long as the body work is in good condition.

There is a few 03 with arb bull bar and not much else going for 20+
