This doesn't make sense. I bought a diesel cause it suited my purpose of towing a camper and I had owned an old hilux surf before that just kept going, just everything eventually fell apart around the engine. When I was buying my current vehicle I would have saved a considerable amount if I bought a petrol but opted for the diesel which was a fair bit more money , I knew injectors would be a consumable , and diesel was more expensive than petrol at the time so if my decision was solely based on money I would have bought a petrol . I have owned both holdens & fords, I don't care about Nissan or Toyota or petrol or diesel, each to his own but my decision had nothing to do with $. If you are spending your hard earned on a car you want to build up and keep you might as well get something you want. If money was a factor I could have bought a Mitsubishi cheaper

Having just purchased a new Prado, I chose the diesel basically for resale value.

Apparently over 98% of Prados sold are diesels. The price difference at new is less than $1,000 but look at used vehicles and the difference is much greater. The petrol engines lose value a lot faster.

If I was buying used, I would probably go for the petrol over the old 3.0L diesel. Cheaper, quieter, more power.
