    Mate,

Sorry, I really can't remember, what I do remember, with injectors changed at 120k, average Klm's, average fuel prices etc, the diesel was much cheaper (much? ) & it was based on no towing & on black top, as 4x4 & towing increased, so did the savings in the diesels favour.

IMO service costs are about the same.
    They all have:
    Oil
    Oil filters.
    Front diff
    Rear diff
    Transfer
    Transmission
    Brake fluid
    Air filters
    Coolant
    Wiper rubbers
    Globes
    Fuel filters
    Driveshafts & grease
    Water pumps that leak
    Brakes

Their fair share of problems - minimal &/or avoidable on both.

One has a Timing belt which is cheap n easy
The other has spark plugs which roughly offsets each other.

Sure I missed something but you get the drift.......

V6 owners dont get cut up, I'm not hanging it on the petrol, it's a great engine & it's certainly better suited to many owners.

Yeah, they tell me it's $210 on the diesel. Might be a tad more with new motor 220-230? Not sure.

"Normal Servicing" - I don't think u will ever see a $1000 difference, but if u are going to keep your car long term and keep it in top order, then I reckon your Servicing Costs will be higher than normal if u factor in Transmission; Power Steering Fluids and what ever else u should also be doing to keep your vehicle in top order..... but these costs also apply to Petrol vehicles as well.....
If u factor in new injectors every 100k or so that are done by a qualified mechanic as well, then it would be interesting to see the figures then....

    Hey all,

    I found this online servicing cost schedule;

    http://www.carservice.com.au/car-ser...auto-09_05-09/

I'm not sure how real world representative the figures are, but if you take the averages, the cost of servicing the petrol is $100 cheaper per year, or $1000 total over the 10 year period including services up to 150000km.

So assuming these servicing costs as according to the book, we're talking $1000 in favor of the petrol.

If we now add in extra servicing costs outside the schedule, such as two lots of injectors for the diesel ($4000 total according to ####), then the diesel is still ahead by around $5000 over the 10 year period.

Here's the figures WITHOUT any Trips, just around town, etc driving.....
    For the last 5yrs:

    kms travelled: 97376kms
    Litres used: 11683ltrs
    Total Fuel Cost: $17,288
Avg Fuel Cost per Litre: $1.48/ltr
    Avg Economy: 12ltrs per 100kms

    cheers....

    Hey,

Ah ok that makes sense then! I remember filling up in Innamincka once for $2.50/litre, worse than Mt dare!

Even at 12litres/100km, it still makes quite a difference, and brings out the difference/year at around $994.

Not sure we'll see $1000 difference in normal servicing costs between diesel and petrol each year!

I'm a bit surprised your fuel costs work out on average to $1.52/litre over the last 5 years, which is a bit high compared to the national diesel average over the last 5 years, more like $1.44/litre.

I checked the Brisbane average for diesel, and it's very close to the national average, so I'm surprised! Maybe filling up in Cashmere is a bad idea?

Using your figure of 12.4litres/100km makes a substantial difference, reducing the average difference/year to $904.

We have had our 150's on a Lease for the past 5yrs & it's only just come out of lease in the last month, so it's been serviced at the same place since new.

Our Running Costs since new in Nov'10 has been:

    Kms travelled: 130278kms
    Total Fuel Used: 16114ltrs
    Total Fuel Cost: $24556
    Avg Economy: 12.4ltrs/100kms
Total Servicing Costs (Lease Servicing Costs only): $7115.
Total Servicing Costs (Leasing Costs + other Maint Costs): $10385

    Period of Ownership: 5.12 years

Avg Distance Travelled per year: 25445kms
Avg Fuel Cost per Year: $4796
Avg Servicing Costs(All) per year: $2028

Total AVG running cost per year: $6824 / 25445kms per year or an AVG of $268 per 1000kms travelled

(Note: No new injectors yet but I guess that's probably not too far away....)

    Hey,

Not really, I do more & less than Toyota book. I'm a bit low tech too! No computer to tell me what it is, lol.......
You see, they wrote the service book before the engines were out there, they have been here for 10 years & my best maintenance practise is to do what they need, which is not what the book says.

By the book service there would not be much in it at all.
For 1kd Add a set of BDG injectors, say twice in 10 years? Say $2000x2 $4000.00. But then v6 has its issues also, as you know.

I didn't analyse it, but that sounds fair.
Coming from a petrol owner, you can't argue with that!

In my calculations years ago it was still much cheaper to run the diesel with new Injectors every 120k.
