  • 2nd tank fuel needle accuracy.

Who elses 2nd 90L gauge seems to go up and down randomly every time you start the car?
It can vary from the fuel light being on to still half a tank full. It indicated less than 1/4 left the other day after jumping around. She stuck 90L in it and it filled the middle tank and half the next tank.

Neither does mine. But when it come on at 90 litres and I fill up immediately afterwards it always takes upwards of 96 litres.

My main tank gauge seems to stick, I normal always keep the tanks full, so when my main tanks lowers it only gets down to approx 1/3 of a tank. From there it will jump to the second tank, once it hits the second tank it generally takes approx 100 - 110 litres of diesel. I have removed my instrument cluster and have had it calibrated by an instrument specialist that was recommended by my Local Toyota dealer. During my next major service I will get it checked out as it is annoying more than anything, lol.

Forget about the fuel gauge. Fill up to full every time, note what your average fuel consumption is and go off the trip meter (assuming that your driving is pretty constant). If you're towing or on a 4WD trip, yeah then it would be annoying.

I'd do that but the wife drives it most of the time as her daily and she wants to look at a gauge.

Just needs a recalibration of the driver to look at the trip meter rather than the fuel gauge. When it hits 1000km, start looking for a fuel bowser.

FACT - Women don't look at gauges. It's programmed into their heads ever since somebody introduced them to a set of scales for checking their weight.

                              Yep, mine does exactly this!
It could have half a tank left, ill park it & then on startup may be down to quarter.
Its even gone from half tank to fuel light on, then after parking goes back up.
Seems to be ok & constant on first 90l, but when it switches to the main tank its all over the shop!

Then sometimes the fuel light will be on, ill put say 50-60l in it and it will be back to the reserve tank.

Luckily I have a Grande with DTE, so I know when it hits 0ks on that I have about 100-140ks left until im pushing.
