  • Re: Service Costs

Can anyone recommend a good place on the Gold Coast for servicing? Got a 120km service coming up.
Also any idea of approximate cost so when I ask for a quote I'll have an idea of whether they're trying to rip me off?

    Cheers
    Matt

My Sept 06 Prado deisel just fell due for it's 100,000 service, so I went to a four wheel drive place (where I'd had work done on my Jackaroo and was happy with), showed him the logbook requirements for that service, and asked for his price. I supply the engine oil and filter, he supply the fuel filter, grease etc. His price was $135.00, and he did the job.He filled in the logbook also, and told me of a lightbulb that needed replacing, and all else was good. The 100,000 service is only a small service, and shouldn't be a huge sum of money. Don't be fooled by the bright and shiny shopfront at the Toyota dealership, there are very good workshops around if you take the trouble to search. I also realise that there are some jobs that only Totota can do, like if they need to plug into a computer programme. I use Penrite oil, and Ryco filters, equally as good as the genuine stuff . Don't throw away good money on a service that can be done just as well by somebody else,I'd do the job myself, but after years of owning trucks and laying under them on weekends, it's time somebody else did it!

Always been done at the local Toyota dealer..... never had a problem, and they have always looked after me.

Turned up this morning..... new young guy at the counter.....

He rings me about an hour later..... front brake pads are shot and disks need machining.... $397.

I said, hang on, you machined the disks just before Christmas (I had a brake shudder) are you sure?

He says, Oh... didn't know that, so don't wory about the machining, just new pads and 2 hours labour, about $250.

How bad are the pads? He says, don't know.... I said go ask the mechanic.... so he comes back and says the mechanic says 5,000 maybe 10,000 left if I'm careful. I said, it gets serviced every 5,000 so how about we have a look at the next service.

Picked it up this afternoon, only $558, which I was very happy with for a major service. (Service sheet says 20% front pads and 60% rear).

I just can't help but feel they were having a go at me....... how many people just say.... yeah 'go for it'

Kind of spoils my trust with them....... Am I being too harsh?

Just had the 80,000km service. This one where all oil's are changed ie- engine, both diffs, brakes. Wife booked it in and was told it would be $540. I took it in and when I went to pay they went through the list of everything they did including changing the rear fuel filter. Once he told what they did he said that will be $980 thanks  . Once I picked my self up I questioned the price and he told me it was a major service so it would be a bit dearer than normal :? . I showed him where the wife had written down the price next to the time and date on the letter we had recieved from Toyota. He tried to explain the difference as a code error when we rang up  . Well I explained that when we booked in the service Toyota had asked for the rego and had bought our car up on the computer so they knew exactly what they were going to service.
I was by now a bit upset :x and asked what they were going to do about it. Well after the "I will ask the manager" speach he came back and explained that there must have been a bit of confusion and that they had adjusted the price back to the quoted $540  .
I am going to ring the dealership on Tuesday and just ask over the phone for the price of a service and if it $540 I will be writting a letter asking why had they tried to charge me $980. It sure pays to get a quote before going in as I would not been able to argue the point if I didn't have the quoted price.

I just had my 70K service (minor one) done on my 07 D4D. I just happened to look up my last minor service at 50K and it was $220 in January this year. When I turned up to the dealer to drop it off I get told, oh its only a minor service this one, will "only" be $320. To which I asked him to look up on his computer the last minor service which was confirmed to be $220, so that is what I paid for this one also. This is a brilliant thread to have all this information together as we can easily get ripped off by these dealers unfortunately.

Well after ringing all three Toyota dealerships in Tasmania to find out the price of a 80,000km service I am now going to keep my mouth shut :| over the price I paid. The three prices I recieved were $880, $980 & $1080. Since I only paid $540, the prcie I was quoted when booking in, I am now not going to go any further with this.

I just had my local mechanic do the 150 and 160k service rolled into one as i am going away got the following
                  Brake fluid changed
                  Diff oils changed
                  Timing belt replaced + tensioner
                  All filters replaced
                  Bonnet gas struts changed
Spare oil, air, fuel filter plus top and bottom radiator hoses to take with
                  Grease all joints underneath
                  Inspect brakes

Only thing he did not do was change the radiator fluid as we did that at 130k cause i could not remember if it had ever been done

                  Total price $815
sorry but putting myself out of a job you can do most of your service yourself ......diff oils and valve clearances (in diesal)thats about it is dealer stuff ......change your oil and filter....do plugs when needed... fuel filter in petrol and diesel when needed not hard.....buy a grease gun do unis...ask ? if you have problems....not much problems with 120 series

Try the same with all Toyota Parts and oil .. at Kmart should move the price to about $500ish.... If you can't do it yourself and need to look after your $60,000 vehicle Some Toyota dealerships are worth it.....Its called warranty if something goes wrong!!!!!!!!!>>>>>

Kmart (and all others) use the same oil and filters As Toyota, the prado cost a lot more than that, and warranty is now over. The only reason I've got it serviced at Toyota is because of the injector problem on my model, which I think I have now. Shit, they even want $130 to do the cold start....

No more Toyota stealership servicing after this one, I've only got it in with Toyota for cold start injector problem, and bullbar recall. Seen them today when I dropped the car off and service is $610, they wanted $100 for aircon clean or some shit.

Genuine Toyota Parts do have a 12/20 warranty that if fitted buy Toyota at Toyota and if the part fails and damages other parts they will be repaired try getting that from supercheap or Repco they may give you a new filter ....so even after the cars warranty the parts cover your cars mechanical ..peace of mind.....

Dropped my rig off at dealer this morning for 40k service. (Service advantage $180)
                            Background info ( delivered Oct 2008 ) last service 30k 17th June 2010
Before I get home phone rings and clerk says unfortunately we cannot do your 40k service for the capped price as it is too far overdue. She says it was due in October. (sticker on windscreen, placed by them says 40k or 17/12/2010) She then says we can do the 50k service for you (basic oil and filter service)
I started to get a bit hot under the collar at this stage
I then advised her that I could not get a booking over Xmas new year period and was advised to wait until parts arrived for the Sovereign Bar Mount recall (still no parts) She then said she would speak to the service manager about this. WTF. Seems they are trying to skip the major service under the service advantage period!!
Question: How will I go getting my last service advantage if not done before Oct?? Anyone been down this path?
When I dropped the vehicle off I signed a form which has a dollar amount for additional repairs if required, I put zero in this section and left a piece of paper saying I wanted the spark plugs and air filter to be left in the rear of the vehicle upon completion.
                            Grrrr!

Search and you shall find. Just scrolled through this thread and found the terms and conditions of service advantage. It seems we have 90 days leeway for the time interval on servicing so I may have just scraped in there, Whew! I will be speaking to the dealer to make sure they put the correct dates on the windscreen sticker to avoid confusion. 8)
Interesting to note A/C filters are not covered under service advantage.

Please help with dealer charges. See previous posts above. Just opened the bill from dealer. $669.55 WTF!!!  Can anyone confirm the 90 days leeway on service date for Service Advantage. After explicitly stating I wanted to be notified of any additional parts required they have charged me for 3 wiper refills $17.85 and freight recovery $19.47. My car was serviced on the 24/1/2011. Delivery date 28/10/2008
I'm thinking of sending an email to the dealer principal and service manager advising of my anger. Any thoughts as to how to go about this and arm myself with the correct info before I go in there and put my foot in my mouth??
