  • GXL quote - Toyota won't budge!

    Hi all,

Im currently in the process of obtaining quotes for a new GXL D4D automatic registered under a business. Now I know this is often a topic that repeats itself with asking others about prices, however the market does change and we all have different requirements and optional extras tacked on. So if you were able to indulge me...

The quotes I have received from three different dealers so far within the Sydney metro area have all been within the $62500k mark driveaway. I have read previously of members purchasing GXL D4Ds within the lower $50k-$55k area, but not knowing whether they had any options added on and other circumstances it can make it difficult to compare. Im yet to get further quotes and there is a lot more bargaining to work on, im just a little suprised they arent more keenly priced given the downturn in sales and competition in the current market.

    Im looking at the following options;

    - Automatic diesel GXL white
    - Bonnet protector & headlamp covers
    - Front weather shields (driver & passenger)
    - Colour coded hard spare wheel cover
    - Park assist - reverse parking sensors
    - 2500kg tow bar
    - Roof racks
    - Grey carpet floor mats first & second row
    - Seat covers front and second row
    - Option pack including; traction control & stability control (VSC) and extra airbags for front & second row seats.

As far as you can all tell with the options, does the price fit the ballpark or do I have plenty of room to maneuver? Feedback from the experience of others would be invaluable as would any advice on bargaining the price down with Toyota. My thanks in advance.

Re: GXL quote - advice on bargaining with Toyota?

i reckon you have between 5-7 grand at least based on prices advertised up here in Qld, especially given it is end of financial year they always want to deal.

You should easily get that spec for $55K

BTW ditch the hard spare cover

I would also ditch the reverse park sensors and put the $500 towards a head unit with screen and reversing camera. I cannot have the towbar hitch fitted without the things screaming non stop when in reverse. Just adds to the noise the passengers make I guess. Mine are going in for their 6th and last attempt to fix the sensitivity/reliability in a little over a year of driving...

          Thanks guys,

Ill take your advice on the wheel cover and sensors, on reflection theyll be more hinderence than their money's worth. Has anyone requested Toyota fit ARB gear ie: bullbar & snorkel etc to their Prado prior to delivery and if so, was it that much more expensive than fitting it later directly with ARB? Im just thinking about warranty issues if I fit aftermarket gear myself, particularly the bullbar.

I have the Toyota sensors and they are great. With the Toyota hitch and ball they work 100%, with the Treg hitch they beep all the time. Fix is to use the Narva trailer plug that disables the sensors when the trailer plug is connected.

D4D which Narva plug did you use? And Croozer I had all my stuff (bar, lights, compressor, snorkel, lift, aux battery and controller) fitted before I took delivery. Normally I fit everything myself but I just didn't have time then to take a week off. I got fitted pricing and took it to the dealer who matched the pricing. It was then up to the dealer to do a deal with the supplier if he wanted some $ so it can be done.

Re: GXL quote - advice on bargaining with Toyota?

Well Im still getting nowhere with the dealerships. Im a little suprised actually. Generally Ive had good fortune negotiating a price for a new vehicle in the past, but ive had 6 different dealerships tell me they cannot possibly go under $60k, even registered under a business with a fleet discount. This is after sending out an email to about 12 dealerships so they were aware they were all competing against each other. I walked into a dealership today and with a fair amount of negotiation, offered to sign on the dotted line if they got under $57k. Salesman was aware Id been shopping around and getting quotes but he just shook his head and told me 'good luck finding that anywhere, even in these difficult times'. He told me to come back anytime if I reconsidered what I was willing to pay. If anyone is willing to, can you tell me what price you payed for your GXL D4D or similar, especially if you had it registered under a business. If you do not wish to make it public then feel free to PM me. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I don't know what dealerships you have tried yet but as others have suggested in other threads, email or fax around 8 yards and make sure you include them all on the one message so they can see they are pricing against each other. Or I have seen mentioned elsewhere on the forum, use a broker and see what they can come up with.
In another 7 weeks it is end of financial year and they usually do deals then.

Don't cave in too easily. The market should be ripe for buyers at the moment (financial crises, end of financial year, slowing of market, etc). If they don't make an offer to you, make one to them!

That's certainly what i would have thought - but I won't give up and will keep on trying. I sent a second group email out to another 15 dealerships across Sydney and just outside Sydney requesting a quote better than $57k drive away. Within 30min I had ten responses saying 'Can't do it - best of luck.' Once Ive exhausted all the dealerships in NSW Ill have to start enquiring interstate!
