This is a old topic here on the forum...

Dealers have tried this shit on and been challenged and defeated. Tell them to stick the car up their arse and you will happily see them in court for breach of contract..

Dealers are hurting.. apply some pressure or pay a solicitor to apply the pressure on your behalf...
thanks for confirming that Matt, I thought it was the case.

Dealers are struggling, so you think they would do anything to gain a sale, but I guess not. They have to tighten the reigns on discounts, but at a risk of losing a sale

Re: GXL quote - Toyota won't budge!

I picked up my D4D about 4 weeks ago in Brisbane

Bought it with fleet discount and and haggled a fair bit. I couldn't get any of them to budge more than a few hundred dollars of each other. In the end I was basically screwed by the dealer. I was after a white turbo diesel auto GXL (couple of extras), and after continually asking what the delivery time was, they responded with..."that's in the hand of the stock controller".

After I signed the contract, they told me delivery was approx 8 weeks. What I've learnt is, dealers are not holding stock volumes because of the downturn. They are basically selling cars they don't have. I ended up pressuring them into releasing me from the contract, and then I found a dealer (actually 2) that had the car I wanted.

The met the price (ended up being 57K with a few bits and pieces) and also got the tank of diesel thrown in.

So a word of caution, shop around, pressure those dealers, but make sure you understand what the delivery time is like.

Re: GXL quote - Toyota won't budge!

Careful with the price increase thing. In the fine print on the contract I signed there was a small clause stating that the dealership could increase the price of the vehicle after I'd signed. Was to a maximum of 5% or so of the total price in my case. Read your fine print carefully and get the calculator out. Ring fair trading or equivalent in your state just for advice, I do this often, it's what they're there for. If the numbers don't add up, ring fair trading for advice, then hit the dealer once you're armed with a little info. Slip the "fair trading" name to the dealer so they know you aren't going in 1/2 cocked. Interesting too, that the fine print for me contained a nice list of events that could get me out of the contract without issue. Such as failure to deliver within a certain time..... For that though I'd book a small session with a law office to get properly informed of what you could do with a clause like that. Toyota is a large corporation after all.

Re: GXL quote - Toyota won't budge!

I was in contact with my fleet manager at Toyota and they've been told by Japan that the new Prado starts its build in July/August. You can still order a 120 series but be quick as no more will be built after the end of June. This will give them the chance to clear the old model stock as people will have to drive away with what they've got in stock or wait until the new stock arrives of the updated Prado in Sep.
We're currently ordering 5 white GX D4Ds and were concerned that we would need to wait and extend the leases. We also have custom fitouts for the rear and these will transfer over saving $$ on a redesign

That wasn't me personally but I've been there heaps for work luckly never been bogged. Was it the old GX with the skinny wheels and bull bar. When I started on the coast they had just changed over to the D4D GX with the wide wheels and it makes all the difference in the sand.

It was a newer one, didn't have the nudge bar and spotties on it though. I past one like yours going up the coast a couple days, i travel from brissie to the sunshine coast most days.

Re: GXL quote - Toyota won't budge!

I had the same issue. I live in Darwin and there is not much competition. I looked as far as NSW, VIC, SA, WA and QLD.

The veh was a 2009 Prado GX, TD, manual, Option 1 pack and aircon. The cheapest I got locally was $54900 drive-away.
This was similar interstate with dealers not willing to go the extra mile except Peter Kittle in Adelaide. They gave me a price of $53900 with window tint and rubber cargo mat delivered to Darwin - drive-away.
I asked them what price they could do with a GXL and the reply was $57100 with Tint and cargo mat Drive-away.

I said this to Toyota locally and they said they could match it. (their first quote was $62000 drive-away).

I was going to go locally but because Peter Kittle did all the ground work and bent over backwards for me, I went with them.
So just waiting on finance approval and off we go...
