  • how to dry the carpet in my prado???

How do I dry the carpet in my prado??? I found out the hard way that they leak water into the cab floor the hard way today when doing a creek crossing  . I have toweled it as dry as I could and have had the heater on and the fan flat out on the floor but am wondering if I need to pull the seats and carpet out I was also going to try and get some thing under the carpet to lift it up a inch or two so air can get under it. It is only the floor that is wet as there was about 20mm of water in there.

    Cheers

Hire a carpet cleaning machine that will suck up all the water

    OR

Get a carpet cleaning person to do it for you.

If it were me, I would take the carpet out, dry the floor and have the carpet cleaned as above.

I would bite the bullet and take the seats and carpet out.

We've had a few of us take a swimming lesson ..... and the main lesson learnt is to take the carpet out and let both the underlay and the floor dry out properly.

(Thanks to Jeff S and Fishnut for their swimming pics)

      Cheers

        Brenden,

yep take the carpet out, its the only way you will get it properly dry and clean. While the carpet is out check that all the bungs in the holes in the floor are present and seated properly. Prados are quite water tight and you shouldn't get any water entry into the cab unless you stop in the water. I've taken mine "swimming" a number of times and have never had any water entry.

Very interesting to note tha the bung/blank grommet Chippy has identified in his photo above was dislodged in my car which at the time was only 5 months old (when I noticed it) and had been off road twice. I was taking a sticky beak underneath after cleaning and noticed it

Re: how to dry the carpet in my prado???

Ok guys I have the carpet out and drying now and was wondering if it would be a good idea to silicon the plugs in so they cant be dislodged or is there a good reason they are easy to get out??? I also noticed that the door seal is just sitting there not really locked into place and thought it might be a good idea to silicon it in aswell?? I could see the hole that the dealer was taking about in under the kick baord and it is bid enough to put a coke can though but once again it must be there for a reason :? Also all of the Bungs were in place and seated well. Thanks for the help with this topic and sorry about the double post just thought that one was about drying and the other was about how to stop it happening.

                Cheers

                  MDS, Brendan,

the bung photo was mine (it's from one of the WA powerline trip threads I think). The reason I highlighted it was because it was completely dislodged. Surprise, surprise, I could also see where all the mud had come in through it. I have no idea how or when it got dislodged, because I've done bigger water crossing than the one that drowned the carpet with no probs. My suspicion is that I pushed it in with the high-pressure sprayer when cleaning too enthusiastically

So Brendan, I did seal all the bungs with black silastic. Can't see any reason not to.

MDS, I reckon it would be hard reseating it without pulling the carpet too!

ah thanks for the clarification. I pulled the grommet back through the hole in inserted it from underneath which in one way is good because it won't get pushed in easy but on the other hand may get caught by sticks or similar and get pulled out.
Re the "enthusiastic" pressure washing, that may have been my cause too now come to think of it.
