  • CRC Belt grip

    G'day all,

Had a noisy belt in the 4.0 V6 Prado since I degreased the motor, so put some CRC Belt Grip on it this arvo. WORST MISTAKE I HAVE EVER MADE

Sprayed it on and now it screams bloody loud and non stop.

What can I do to get rid of this stuff? Anyone else ever used it??

    Thanks a heap.

    Re: CRC Belt grip

use a can of degreaser whilst engine running to wash it off. I played with it when I was having issues with the blower belt on my v8. Made it so bad I couldnt drive it!

Try rubbing a stick of "dry lube" on the belt instead.

I've used belt grip heaps over the years, the trick is to get an even coating on the contact surfaces of the belt for the entire circumference otherwise you end up with patches with differing friction coefficients as the pulleys rotate. I agree it is a bugger to get off and I'm not sure degreaser will do it (though I am willing to be corrected)

      Cheers

        Re: CRC Belt grip

I was thinking degreaser might work, but its bloody sticky stuff

Hopefully I can get it off and get some dry lube on it, I have heard candles work well too.

          Re: CRC Belt grip

Was banned in my workshop. Only allowed in service vehicles as a "get out of shit" measure until a new belt or pulleys could be sourced..... dirt sticks to it and increases wear on pulleys. Especially bad on vee belts and alloy pulleys.

Gotta agree with Adrian, not sure degeaser will get it off. You might need a solvent of some sort like thinners.

Thanks Mick. Not happy to say the least, will try degreaser and see how I go.

EDIT: While I'm at it, does anyone know who makes the belt and the part number? I have searched all Bosch belts and cant find it.

Only asking incase I need to change the belt.

Thanks again all, would be stuffed without your advice.

                  Hi Rusty Truck,
I agree with Peter, I only ever use genuine replacement OEM drive belts, I got caught out once using non genuine drive belts on my GU Pootrol and my mate also got stuffed up when he went to fit non genuine belts to his petrol 100 series.

Ahh sh!t, just bought a Dayco belt today. Was $20 cheaper then the OEM belt and without the 2 week wait.

Might just keep it a spare, see what happens.

Everybody has said what I was thinking.

"Keep well clear of Belt grip " used it once never again

Boss reckons use WD-40 - he used to sell/manufacturer most aersol based products.

Talcum powder, yep good idea its nothing more than a dry lube, similar to Graphite powder without the black stains and best of all cheap as chips too.

Better get back to work

Belt Grip is sticky stuff. Good to spray on your boot sole when you want to walk on a wet and slippery tin roof!

The talcum powder has worked a treat. Nice point there Pat, I will give the belt grip to my brother (sheet metal roofer).
