  • 35000k oil change, some issues crop up

    Hi guys,

was doing an in between service oil change. And was having a look around while I was under the car.

noticed this ( bottom right radiator )

not sure what to make of it. I purchased the car at 20000k's, so no telling what happened before I got it.

what do you think, is it a poor repair job, or a crap radiator ? anyone know what Im up for to get a new one

also noticed a few bits/nuts/screws missing. any of this covered under warranty ?

inter cooler scoop two screws missing

right hand wheel arch (splash guard ? ) hanging loose

just forward of fuel tank not sure what the little radiator does ? looks like a bolt missing

Im a bit disappointed that none of this was notice during the 30000k service ( and they wanted me to pay $480 for it )
as Im sure that all of this has not happened in the last 5000k's .

    Hi smerfester,

Looks like it has been welded rather crudely, if it's not leaking fluid I wouldn't
worry about it. Get them to check it next time you have the car serviced.

If you're quick and see this in time, you may get a bargain:

          Hi smerfster,
Definitely get a new radiator/ core, seepage of coolant like that spells trouble, the under-body radiator thingy is a "fuel - cooler" get a nut on that stud soon as. I would be doing a cursory check all over your truck for any other little surprises, but you sound as though you have done that. Hope you radiator bidding goes OK.

              Thanks all,

got the new radiator for $135, so off to the big city this weekend to pick it up.

the main reason Im doing the mid service oil changes is to spend time and look things over.

also just to get a feel for the way things are when everything is ok. it might just make it a bit easier to spot problems before Im in the middle of no where

anyone have any ideas as to how long it / how much it might cost to exchange the radiators ?

Not sure about costs, but it is not a diffiult job. One thing though, make sure they use Toyota coolant, DON'T allow them to mix coolants, you may be best going to Toyota and buying some and giving it to the mob doing the job if you are not getting Toyota to change the raditor.

definitly use the toyo coolant my mechanic refused to use anything else as you have to flush the radiator about 10 times to get all the old stuff out.

Make sure they also fill it in a way that gets any air out as there is one pipe at the back of the engine bat that is higher than a radiator
Dont list all ya mods, you will only be more upset when i get further
