    Re: idle up switch

i agree most (if not all) cruise controls these days are based on vehicle speed and not engine speed
however i have come across some cruise controls that can be used to increase/decrease engine rpm while the vehicle is stationary.
i found it by accident in a few trucks while piss farting around
i've only found this function to be on trucks so far, but as the D4D is a bit more modern than my 1KZ (on which the cruise doesn't control RPM while stationary) i thought it'd be worth a try to see if it worked
if it does work then it's an easier option than making stuff and tapping into the wiring for the ECU
if it doesn't work then nothing lost but 5 mins of time

perhaps someone could give it a go and post back with a yes or no

We have some European trucks at work with this feature and It is used to raise the idle speed for use with a PTO.

It doesn't work... the Prado cruise is based on road speed. It receives its speed signal from the ABS computer/wheel sensors (Except for early GX models without ABS and the its from a hall effect sensor on the final drive).

It also wont engage under about 40kmph.

              Re: idle up switch

OK, heres the gen... The idle switch on D$D prado will only work with a cold motor. It will raise the idle speed until the engine warms up. When the engine is warm ... it will do nothing.
              Cheers

                Re: idle up switch

see this for info on 1kz idle up switch and wiring.
it works independant of engine temp, and only drops when put into drive or reverse.
the moment you re-select neutral or park, the revs increase. you can then press your momentary switch and revs drop to standard.
this will be awesome when winching next, or on a very hot day with AC on stopped.

i believe the petrols one dont have this and this is used only to heat up the diesal engine for optimal operating temperatures !

You live in Karratha and it is eleventy five degrees C in the shade. Idle up works below 10C ish.

Depends on air temperature as well. Mine hasn't engaged for the last week - only because overnight temps are only getting down to 12 or so.

makes a lot of sense... with this heat in karratha the idle up hasn't kicked in lately, good to know i haven't stuffed it up by adding a cb (as i was thinking i had).

Perhaps with the heatwave sweeping our land we should be looking into idle-downs. - If idle-ups warm up the engine then idle-downs must keep things a little cooler under the bonnet...

The car had sat idle for 3 days then on last Sunday arvo the EGT read 62 degrees and I hadn't even started the engine. The outside gauge read a measly 46.
